2.2 percent of all scenes (65 total)
had just Rachel, Phoebe, and Monica in them.

i meant to comment on that, as well
it was by no means cancelled...they decided to end the show after about 10 years of success

the one thing on the final episode that bothered me was mentioned last week in a fark thread...why did monica give up that cheap-but-gigantic rent-controlled apartment in a good part of nyc? i mean, i understand completely why they were moving out of the city, but come on! joey, rachael, and phoebe could use it! it could be rented out! something!

Slate usually does this sort of thing to show how a show's producers and/or writers are closeted bigots.  This is a big step for them.

Came to chime in that 'PIVOT' inexplicably cracks me up as well.

"princess consuela bananahammock" is a phrase that randomly pops into my head at least twice a week
maybe it's because i eat like 10 bananas a week...? i don't know...but it's quite funny
that whole exchange between mike and phoebe...and when he finally explains to her what a bananahammock is...funny!

I do confess that, when going to a restaurant where they ask your name to page you when your table is ready...I seriously use 'Regina Philange' as the name for them to page.

Tax Boy: Hey lets check out all the black people on Friends!

No, they lived in Greenwich Village, which is something like 80% white and less than 5% black.

I don't know why people find it surprising that there were very few black people on Friends when the cast was six white people living in a predominantly white neighborhood who hang out at a coffee shop.

I guess that was something David Schwimmer had a problem with throughout the life of the show. Six people of fairly diverse backgrounds all friends, living in NYC, yet essentially all of their friends, and the people they dated, were white. He actually had to fight the writers to get that one arc of Ross dating a black woman.

Having lived in Manhattan for several years, I guess I don't really find it all that surprising.  While NYC as a whole is a very diverse city, individual neighborhoods are not, and it's not as if you're venturing outside your neighborhood all the time - everything you need on a day-to-day basis is within a few blocks.  Nearly every single neighborhood in Manhattan (below 96th street) is overwhelmingly white, and when I say "overwhelmingly" I mean a minimum of 70% and in many cases 90+.

You date people you meet, and it's really not very likely that any of the "Friends" would meet very many black women to date.  In their neighborhood, they're twice as likely to meet someone of Asian descent, and that's still less than 10% of the population.

Its really hard to watch episodes from the first few seasons of that show. All the clothing and styles are so painfully 1990.

Its like they should all be watching A Few Good Men and listening to 'Jeremy' on an endless loop.
