In a set of experiments with more than 500 participants, people rated writing by "David F. Clark" as better than the exact same text written by "David Clark." Even better? "David F.P.R. Clark

I use my middle initial because, thanks to a typo on my father's birth certificate, there are FIVE people in the world with our last name, and he and I have the same first name. Of course, that doesn't stop the DMV, registrar of voters, etc from confusing us.

People call me by my first two initials, does that count?  I'm also a fourth, so I'm total white-bread.

/all three names can be first names

In the case of GWB, he really kinda HAD to use his middle initial.  He's not a junior.  But his he and his father share the same first and last name.  They have both always used their middle initials so people know which is which.

I am still confused by people that goe by first inital middle name.  Or even worse, J. R. R. Tolkein.  Really?!  3 first initials?!

What about using a first initial?  I use my middle name, but sometimes use my first Initial, middle name, and last name.  I do this to avoid awkwardness if someone has me listed by my first name.  I sometimes worry that it makes me look like a pretentious prat.

Using three names is what they call death row inmates/ midnight executionaries...

Nidal Malik Hasan (Leavenworth)

Bobby Joe Long (Florida)

etc...

AspectRatio: Harry S. Truman

No period after the "S" ― that was his entire middle name. Allegedly, each side of his family wanted his middle name to be after an ancestor whose given name began with "S" and it nearly came to a war over which would be chosen, so to save family peace, he was just given the initial letter alone.

I have to do that too. Or, even worse, use my first name (parentheses) then last name. It especially sucks when the records have to match exactly and I don't know how they have me listed. Thanks a lot mom and dad.
