(PackersNews)   One of the original goalposts from the NFL's oldest team has been found and is now on display at a museum. If only it could talk about the history and renown it has seen it would say the Bears still suck   (packersnews.com) divider line 27

What'd you say about da Bears?

According to TFA, if you drop $400 you can have a piece of metal from the goalpost.

That seems... counterproductive.

The Packers are not the NFL's oldest franchise. They didn't even join until the second year of the league's existence. The only charter members of the league that are still operating are the Bears and Cardinals. If you consider the pre-NFL era, the Cardinals are the oldest.

Guess it depends on how subby is defining "oldest".  The Packers are the oldest franchise operating under the same name in the same location.  The Packers were founded in 1919 but didn't join the NFL until 1921.

The only two NFL charter team from the inaugural 1920 season still in operation are the Chicago Cardinals (now Arizona Cardinals) and the Decatur Stanleys (now the Chicago Bears)
The Stanleys/Bears were founded the same year as the Packers, in 1919.

The Cardinals could make the claim to have been founded in 1898.  The original club disbanded in 1906 due to lack of competition, and then a new club formed in 1913 claiming the previous club as part of its history. Then they were also suspended again during part of WWI.   Source

Actually, Failmitter, given that the Packers used the Park from 1919 until 1923, it would speak about the Chicago Staleys winning it all in 1921, and the Chicago Bears finishing 2nd overall in 1922 and 1923 (above the Packers).

The Bears suck, the Lions spit, and the Vikings swallow. Jeez I miss football, but the Brewers are lots of fun to watch this year.

Is "Stanleys" a thing? Haven't heard it before. Or is it because of autocorrect?

Sorry, "Staleys". My bad.

Pedantic point is pedantic. The Cards are still older in either case :P

uncoveror The Packers are not the NFL's oldest franchise.

You could win many bar bets from "armchair experts" by tearing apart the Fail behind the NHL's "Original Six", make it a pitcher when you point out the 1st American team to win the Stanley Cup was Seattle.

Speaking of Early Football, "Leatherheads" was an awful movie, only George Clooney could take a "Bingo Long"-style period romp & make it courtroom drudgery about whether or not from Jim "The Office" was a wussy during trench warfare in France

But they said oldest Football team... I am not sure the Bears qualify.
