Feel_the_velvet: I could never see the point in these so-called 'bucket lists.'

Really.  If you want to do something, either do it, or accept that there is only so much you can do in the limited time and resources that you have available to you.

I got all of what is now called a "bucket list" out of the way early - teens and twenties.  Everything I have now is a bonus.  It's a freakin' awesome and serene life to live when you have no real desires other than curious interest in what happens next.

Hopefully his vision lasts a while.  Specifically, until at least August 21, 2017.  A total solar eclipse is one hell of a sight to behold.

Tillmaster: RKade: Oh kid. Don't you know it doesn't go dark when you go blind?
You'll learn just like I did. Blind isn't a color.

Very sorry to hear that.
I've had blind spots in my vision, for various reasons, and understand what you mean. Can you describe what it's like for the whole of your visual field to be affected?

I was born 3 mo's early back in 83 so mine was caused by a careless nurse before I could remember it (too much oxygen = detached retinas to varying degrees.) The best way I can describe it is like an absence of vision. There's supposed to be something there... but it's not.  Or to put it in computer rgb terms, if black is 0,0,0 than blindness is a,$,* It's literally something incomprehensible to the system.

Calling it "darkness" is oversimplifying it.

Kid's only 9- given the rate of cybernetic advancement over the last 15 years, I predict he'll have vision again before he's 40.  Maybe even with thermal imaging and X-ray capabilities.

//Hope I'm right

heel turn: If someone is born blind, can that person see when they're dreaming? Is the experience just audible? Can dreaming be possible without sight?

Looks like you need to waste some hours watching Tommy!

Sad story.

// Dated a guy who was born a preemie and lost his sight due to damage caused when one of the nurses set the oxygen level in the incubator too high. If anything can be sadder than inevitable blindness, it's blindness caused by human error.

I had retinal detatchment a few years ago. Went blind in one eye, couldnt see at all for weeks after the surgery. It still feels like a weird magical gift to look at a tree or the sky sometimes.
