They were all released as far as I know. The CBS reporter seemed surprisingly calm in her telling of the experience.

If it was a guy from Cracked, we'd instead get the Top 5 (or 6) Things To Do When You Are Kidnapped by Russians, and it would be on two pages.

This is what happens when the rebels are lunatics. Like Syria, the people trying to over throw the government are not necessarily the good guys.

The "Rebels" in this case are being supplied, directed, and trained directly by members of the Russian Army. They are not the people who overthrew the previous Ukrainian Administration.

She seems to have been mildly interested by the bondage, but since neither изнасилование nor згвалтування were apparently mentioned, it was mainly a nuisance.

It's probably for the best if you don't call anybody a journalist in the Ukraine for a while.

Buzzfeed actually has some well-written articles about real issues, you just have to sift through all the mindless lists, quizzes, and pop culture stuff to find them.

/But I like that mindless stuff too sometimes

Yeah, according to the russian propaganda these current "rebels" are trying to overthrow the government that overthrew the government (which was loyal to Putin), which was overthrown in a relatively peaceful (relative to this, anyway) transfer of power due to protests in Kiev.

/Meanwhile the current gubbmint is supposed to hold elections in 3 weeks - we'll see how that goes.

Calm because it ain't really much of a story.     They get detained, sit around,  some people talk they get let go.    Not a big farking deal.

They can't even seem to spin it into some kind of a story.

Plant Rights Activist: The Evil That Lies In The Hearts Of Men: We're still pretending these guys are "pro-Russian militants"?

And in this case probably just regular old correct.  It is not like there AREN'T local boys just pleased as punch to turn traitor to their country, it's just they aren't the ones with the tools and organization to have started this or successfully take as much as was taken.  The Russian special forces are working in the center, keeping the local boys out where the cameras can see them.

They also have enough training and wherewithal that they would not talk about ransoming foreign journalists.  That shiat requires orders from VERY high up the chain.

Even if that's the case it's the pro-Ukraine groups slaughtering opposition in Odessa. All the incredible violence is being done in the name of 'maintaining order'. The pro-Russian people are the victims, as much as you might hate that. And many of them are citizens who genuinely want to join Russia because they are disenchanted with the EU. An otherwise peaceful revolution is being violently stamped out in the name of democracy.
