Best technical drummer (maybe).....but not the most creative one out there, IMHO.

2014-05-03 11:04:49 AM
Peart, Bohnam, Carey.......oh hell, they're all pretty damned good.

2014-05-03 11:37:17 AM
The correct answer is Stewart Copeland.

2014-05-03 11:39:03 AM
Subby, they asked "Who is the greatest drummer?" not "Who is the greatest amasser of gongs, traps, snares, cymbals, and random percusive gee-gaws?".

2014-05-03 11:40:23 AM
I'd go with Mike Portnoy.

For chrissakes, as stupid as these polls are .....

1) Bill Bruford
2) Steve Gadd
3) Mickey Hart

Obviously, your choices are a reflection of the music you like.  Except I really get bored with the music of the Dead so there's that.  I love the work of Prairie Prince, Terry Bozzio, and Taylor Hawkins.  Carl Palmer amazed me when I was 16 (41 years ago).  farkin' Ringo only played the beats that HAD to be there and although his technical prowess may always come to be questioned, his playing fit like a glove.  Keith Moon's drumming is awful to me but like Ringo, it fits.  Charlie Watts is the finest metronome ever.  Geez, I hate these polls.  Buddy Rich was awesome.  Rudiments.  Ken Mazur.

IMHO, Neil Peart is the non- thinking person choice.

Thank you for listening.  Ba-Dum, CRASH.

Steven Adler.

Ringo Starr

List completely fails without including Terry Bozio. And Pairing Mike Portney with Ringo Starr?? Who are these clowns?

Nope. She's almost as talentless as her brother. Almost.

Neil is the obvious answer.

Had trouble with the decision of Bruford vs Bonham. Went with Bonham, but it was not easy.
And I picked Ringo over Portnoy. I love a good upset.

Carey vs. Chamberlin is hard.  I've been in front of each of their kits.  I think Chamberlain may have a greater range, whereas Carey does what he does very, very well.

Nicko McBrain.

He's got an awesome rib joint in Coral Springs and has an awesome name. Oh, and he's an awesome drummer.

Everyone listed is a cheater who uses two arms.  Real drummers only need one.

2014-05-03 03:32:57 PM
The tournament's missing Dan Didier and Glenn Kotche

I can't decide between Cameron or Moon.

2014-05-03 03:34:43 PM
As a drummer, I know there is only one answer to this question. That answer is Buddy Rich.

Mickey Hart isn't on the list!!!

/Yes, he does have the largest collection of percussion instruments.

Dale Crover would be my pick, even over Neil. And I really like Joey Baron...

Yes, I realize Crover and Baron are not in the link. So Neil.

Thank You Black Jesus!: moothemagiccow: The tournament's missing Dan Didier and Glenn Kotche

Cameron

Cameron.  I might hold a different opinion if I was ten years older.  I like Keith's drumming, and his over-the-top personality pushes him out front.  Townshend is on record saying that Keith only knew one drum fill, but that he played it really well several ways.  After reading that, it's all I hear!

I fear that some of the battles between drummers will be chosen based around the band they were in and what they contributed to that band in mistaken context of skill and ability.  But that happens in any sort of competition such as this, and it is not as though this is the end-all-be-all selection.  It doesn't even include future drummers! ;p

I love Mitch Mitchell's drumming, but if he was put behind the kit for Rush, the Beatles, Zeppelin, he'd seem awfully out of place.  I think it's odd he's up against Peart.  There are some curious match-ups, Starr and Portnoy, Cameron and Rich, Grohl and Baker.

It's not a perfect bracket, but it is a fun one!

Nice pick.  I think a goid matchup would be Starr/Fleetwood, Watts/Starr, or Watts/Fleetwood.

Gene Krupa...

Or Buddy Rich

LOL nope. And nope.

And I'm a massive Rush fan.

I saw Mick Fleetwood play a drum solo - it was both the saddest and longest minute of my life.

Pointless argument, as always.

But a list without Dave Weckl, and yet with Dave Grohl is beyond ridiculous.

LOL.  I saw Tim Davis of the Steve Miller Band get out from the kit and rap.  Pretty sad there, too.

Can you imagine anyone these days getting that pissed off about their band slacking on the job? I love those tapes. He sounds like a five star chef berating his kitchen staff for not delivering the dining experience he wants.

Aren't you bored with best ever? Most underrated is usually a better discussion.

Matt Apts from Gov't Mule is great.
