Shadowknight: goatan: Only at ones where the bride is walking down the aisle to banjo music.

Ask, and Google will provide.  Bonus points given because the guy is wearing an Appalachian State shirt.

Brilliant, looking at the pictures with that playing just takes it to another level.

Rigby-Reardon: On the photographers site he says that the daughters have to choose this not the fathers.

Dad: honey at church they are going to be having a purity ball. I just wanted to let you know in case you did not want to burn eternally in a lake of fire for having intercourse before marriage.

Daughter: ok dad thank for telling me.

Dad: i just figured since you are still pure we might want to think about preserving your virginity. You are still a virgin right?

Daughter: Yes dad

Dad: So do you want to go to the ball remain a virgin, or burn eternally in a lake of fire since you are not a virgin anymore?

Daughter: Is the lake of fire rhyolitic or basaltic?

Dad: Um, maybe Andesite. Basalt is more for regicides and traitors.

Daughter: Come on, losing my virginity has got to be rate Dacite at worst, and even that is a stretch. I think I'll take my chances.

...

The moral of the story is, if your daughter studies geology, she is a slut.

Eh, it's no so creepy.  This feels more like an excuse for liberal and anti-Christian people to bag on religion.  Still waiting for the anti-Muslim/anti-Islam crowd to show up on Fark, but it's not PC.    Is there a purity ball for Muslim fathers and their daughters?  Or are the daughters even allowed to go to school / leave the house?

It's both funny and sad how far out of their way libtards will go to bag on anything Christian and simultaneously defend Muslims.

Picture #5 looks like the daughter was caught losing her virginity and forced to go. He just told his daughter now lets not have that happen again.

Crewmannumber6: BarryTheMasterOfSandwich: Why are religious people so obsessed with sex?

I really don't want to be the to defend these people but, they're not the ones projecting sex into this situation. Farkers are weird

You think this Purity Ball concept has nothing to do with sex and you're calling Farkers weird?

Tom_Slick: sonofslacker: Tom_Slick: sonofslacker: Tom_Slick: Evil Mackerel: jayhawk88: Damn, every one of those girls looks like they're in a hostage situation. Which I guess probably isn't too far from the truth...

They are and on many levels.

Yup, and the second they are out of the house.....

CSB; I have 2 coworkers with college age daughters, one's a religious nut job, one's a decent guy with hippie leanings,  guess which one's daughter came home after her freshman year pregnant, covered in tats, and with 2 arrests for possession.

Is this a trick question? It's the hippie one, amiright?

The funny thing is I've known the hippie guy for since his kids were born (we've been bouncing around the  same industry)  you would expect his kids to be like him and his wife, pot smoking party animals.  Nope his teenage daughters are both level headed responsible young people.

Ha, this hits close to home. We were closer to the hippie stereotype then the religious nut job when our kids were born. They both are fairly responsible young people now and have told me to turn the music down more than once.

Subjecting your children to "Freedom Rock" at high volume is a form of abuse.....

Hey, i was always told you should "turn it up man!"

2014-05-03 10:25:20 AM
Well, either way you're screwed.  You can burn in the lake of fire or freeze to death and lack oxygen in the clouds.  Neither choice sounds good.

2014-05-03 10:27:12 AM
My dad simply told me, "not too many men want to marry a woman who's easy to get in bed too soon. Don't be a slut, respect yourself and stay away from disrespectful guys". I listened to dad.
Why the need to make such a big todo about this stuff? Sheesh...

So you're basically trying to say purity balls shouldn't be mocked because, hey, at least they're not cutting off little girls' clits? That's setting the bar awfully low.

madgonad: Nobody has mentioned the flip-side of Purity Balls.

Quinceañera

The generally quite religious and Catholic Hispanic culture actually celebrates a fifteen year old becoming a Woman and being 'open for business'.

This reinforces my belief that Purity Balls are just an extension of the Anglo trend to want to control women at all times. It isn't about God. It is part of this weird system that they try to impose on the nation in which women are possessions - to be passed from one man to another - from birth to grave. Suffrage, careers, education, and birth control are other fronts on their struggle to control women.

"Anglo trend", huh?  Broad-brush much, shiat-for-brains.

"Quit making this about sex and swear on your virginity."

Now I mean, I love my daughter. She's got nearly as much of an invective filled vocabulary as I do, and her big dream in life is to be the person who discovers what dark matter and dark energy really are (and frankly, considering her determination and skill at math / physics at the young age of 14, I have little doubt she may just do it). But I'd be fooling myself if I thought my making her sign some silly piece of paper would keep her from bedding some boy when she decides it's time. Sure, I educate her, sure we've had very frank discussions, and no I don't exactly make it all that easy for her to get a chance to do anything at this age. But when she finally does, I'd like to think she'll do it safely, without guilt or fear, or this barbaric, medieval concept that it makes her "dirty" or "impure".

Good parenting.

Son of Thunder: corronchilejano: I don't see why this is creepy.
(Not that I aprove of the concept)

Me either. We've had enough "bad family photos" threads around here that these ones barely rate a flicker on my creepometer.

It's what perception researchers call top-down processing. Perception is influenced by prior expectations, attitudes, and situational cues. So we start off with the "scary" tag and subby's "creepy" headline, follow it up with TFA's "creepy" headline, and TFA itself loading the reader up with the message that we will now look at creepy Christians looking creepy while at this creepy Christian thing because they're creepy, it's not surprising that a collection of blandly-awkward father-daughter pictures make some farkers say "wow, that's creepy".

The Force can have a strong influence on the weak minded.

I'll give you that the article prepped me for creepiness - but it had nothing to do with the word and everything to do with the "Purity Ball" idea. The  only way these pictures wouldn't have seemed creepy to me would have been if you'd told me they were pictures of dads and daughters at their moms' funerals.

I am one libtard who will not defend Islam or any other religion.

/The only reason Wicca and Baha'i haven't committed any atrocities yet is that they have yet to have secular power over any country.  Just give'm a chance.

You sound persecuted.
And you're a liar, because we bag on Muslims for being backwards and anti-woman all the time.  Somebody upthread already mentioned them, in fact.  Now, we're not going act like conservatives and spout off about how the dirty camel-jockeys are all evil and out to kill us, but we take our jabs.

What's funny and sad to us is that your first reaction to having something about your religious/political group (and I assume you are one) called out, is to point to another religion that you consider bad and say "look, they do it too!  Why aren't you complaining about them more?"

I'm really enjoying the not-so-subtle reference to getting drilled in the background.  How the fark did this guy pick this background out of all the choices he had?

"OK, for backgrounds, we have a beach scene, here's a garden, here's a farm..."

"Whoah, is that a drilling rig, repeatedly thrusting a giant shaft into the dirt?"

"Uh...yeah."

"Perfect.  Take the picture shutter-boy.  Eyes forward, sweetheart.  Daddy's gonna strike oil."

I think he was going for that bright, slightly desaturated look.  You know, white, pure, bright...  But it's so damn bright, some of their skin tones blend in to the sand behind them.

Muslims are goofy too.  Feel better now?

When Muslims start trying to get their religion taught in schools instead of science, they will get the same crap that Christians get for it.

Actually, it's not broad enough.  They should have said "male trend."  Pretty much every culture has a history of treating women as property or second class.

I don't know where you get that from...feminism is a western white people thing.  It's non-anglos who are performing clitordectomies, stoning women for getting raped, burning brides because the dowry wasn't big enough, etc.

I'll "bag" on all the Muslims, that think this is the 13th century, and their daughters and wives are pieces of their property, like their farking camel, all you want.  I've got no farking respect for them, no matter how many times some idiot shouts, "But, what about Algebra!"

Regardless of the context (horrible), they are still lousy photos, unless his intention was washed-out vintage color like a 1930's Kodachrome today.

I've only been using lightroom for a month and I can do better than that.

They all look more or less like you would expect purity ball parents and kids to look, he's a control freak and she's repressed already.

We really try hard to mess our kids up sexually it seem like.

Like I said above, he probably made the color balance weird in an attempt to made the tone feel pure, clean, and white.  You know, all that symbolic stuff.  Personally, I think it fails when you are in front of a background that's already so bright and white.  If you are going to use that kind of background, you really can't rely on natural light alone.  Just blows everything out.
