Pic fails without Dragonriders of Perth sizes.

/Not the ones in the books (and I reluctantly use the word) written by Todd McCaffery.

Wyverns. They are wyverns if they have wings from their forelegs. Dragons have four legs and wings.

Size isn't everything.  Those damn Elder dragons in Skyrim are a real pain to deal with when they go after NPCs.

Bound bow, maxed out archery, sneak and invisibility thrown in and you can make short work of them.

Also, the Red Death (the big monster bad guy dragon at the end of  How to Train Your Dragon)was larger than Balerion.  I think it was somewhere over a hundred meters long.

Glad to see Temeraire made the chart. I don't normally go in for the "intelligent pet" dragon, but I like that one.

Pretty sure Deathwing from Warcraft is bigger than most of those.

This post fails because it's Pern, not Perth.

So much THIS!  Really is the go to comparison if you ask me.

http://www.petermacnicolonline.com/vermithrax.html

Vermithrax is 40 feet long, with a wingspan of 90 feet.
Not as big as i would have guessed but still plenty large enough to chomp you and your horse at the same time.

His size was pretty variable it seemed, but yeah, freakin huge, he took a bite out of a city, a raid took place on his back...

Note:  Don't screw with Australia.

Anywho, the Pern dragons are hard to place since there's been a lot of retconing going on.  Originally Ramoth was 45 meters in length.  There's an illustration in one of the guide books showing Ramoth to be only slightly smaller than an L-1011 jumbo jet.

peoplepern.narod.ru

Yet in later works, Ramoth was only 65 feet in length.  A radical size reduction.

Oh, he's not that bad. Granted, he has the same sidekick tendency to get in trouble, but at least he can serve as a living fax machine/pincushion.

Plus, he's less likely than most dragons to incinerate you where you stand.

If I remember correctly the Dragon Overlords of Krynn ranged in the 200-250 ft range...and big reds got into up to 200 feet in length.

I could be wrong on this one. But is this the first fark dragon thread?

how big would a fark dragon be?

2014-05-03 10:42:37 AM
Smaug is a wyvern, not a dragon. Although this changed between the brief scene in An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug.
/If you're going to compare similar creatures at least get them right.

2014-05-03 11:28:49 AM
Yeah, first thought in my head was "List fails without Ramoth."  Then I had to go look up her size.   I also looked for Ancalagon the black from Tolkien.  Not a very impressive graphic.

There's a mod you can get that forces NPCs to seek shelter when a dragon attacks.
