So, it won't be funny. Eddie Murphy just isn't funny anymore. Sad.

Is there even a single scene of Beverly Hills Cop that is funny? It's still possibly the most over-rated comedy Hollywood ever released.

1.  I saw "Fletch" maybe 4-5 years ago.  that is a terrible movie.  I know it has a cache with some comedy fans, but....that is a terrible movie period, much less "overrated".

2.  Blues Brothers.  Now, not terrible, but extremely - EXTREMELY!!!! - overrated "comedy".  there are som egreat scenes, now, that's not disputable.  But as a film, it is a bit long, not terribly well paced, and the really thin plot stretched out and the Nazi thing just bizarre.  But a dreadfully overrated comedy.  It's basically an at best, average movie, but as a comedy, terrible.  if you called this a bad movie i wouldn't disagree much.

Yeah, but, if you just look at it as you do at Miami Vice, its hella cool.

/saw it as a kid, didn't realise it was supposed to be funny. I just though Axel Foley was supposed to be cool (which he was).

Smitty, where the hell are you seeing "reboot"? It's very clear from TFA that it's a sequel.

Brett Ratner, eh?  Straight to landfill.

The "super cop" monologue is funny. Bronson Pinchot is funny. The "PHIL!!! PHIL!!!" scene in the strip club is funny.

Apart from that, no.

But it also has a younger Jonathan Banks as the villain's main thug. Kinda like "Mike Ehrmentraut: The Early Years".

It really isn't a movie.

Actually, this might not be as horrendous idea as it sounds. This movie (and 48 Hours even more so) have not aged well, and look terribly dated today.

I liked the movie but really loved the soundtrack. Axel F, The Heat is On, Neutron Dance.

But I can't imagine Eddie Murphy being anything but a caricature of his younger self. Whatever happened in the Golden Child took away Eddie's funniness.

Topical/geographical reference....A big Supreme Court case in 1978 or so gave the KKK the right to parade through Skokie, Ill., a heavily Jewish area.  The ACLU represented the Klan in defense of their First Amendment rights.  National news, and I suspect even better known in the Chicago area.
Well-known then, but I can see that if you're not aware of the reference, it DOES look pretty random.

Just about every scene with Bronson is funny as hell, anyhow why would Beverly Hills Cop be strictly a Comedy? I thought it was actually classified as an 80s action film/comedy.
I laughed more in BHC then I did in Fletch or some of the others so called "80s comedies), Fletch I ended up simply turning it off it was so bad. Thus being said, Eddie Murphy was never entirely funny to me, I was more into satire comedy.

On the plus side, anything Dane Cook does I turn off the second I see his name, I guess his career tanked faster then Paulie Shores (whose dead btw)

this time make it beverly hills butt pirate where a scrappy but street-smart detroit cop has to rescue judge reinhold from some random but sinister group of malcontents. like big trouble in little china meets dragnet.

it would be a winner. we would all be winners.

So Kevin Hart needs to be told that Eddie Murphy isn't dead just yet.

And Fletch and The Blues Brothers are great films.

I like to think of it as a musical comedy. Almost like a live-action Disney film for adults. And farking amazing.

Are you sure you didn't see the overly long and sluggishly paced "Extended Edition"?

The Blues Brothers is a work of genius. It is possible that it may be harder to appreciate because of all the influence it has had on everything after it. It came out during a time when theater owners considered it too black to release in white neighborhoods.

And as much as Blues Brothers 2000 gets crapped on, it had a great spoundtrack and an amazing collection of cameos and guest artists.

This.
Okay, the plot is a little weak, but more than made up for with great throwaway bits, good music (even the BB covers) and cool cameos.

Maybe Eddie needs to go back to stand up to find his funny again.  Although at his age, he'll start to sound like Bill Cosby a bit.

MMkay, here goes - Axl Foley has become a dissolute, think Wil Smith in Hancock or Gary Busey in the original Point Break.  He's got a few side businesses of a not entirely nefarious nature that keeps him hustling, but he's not sure they're making enough for him to retire.  He volunteers to help train a couple of rookies thinking that he can use their strong backs and energy to cobble together one more flim-flam, but they are very much new generation who want to talk about work, but not really do a whole lot of work.  They have no use for him or his side businesses until one afternoon they get their butts kicked by some serious criminals who steal their car, guns and gear. Suddenly, Axl is their only friend and they need to do some really fast talking and dealing to track it all down to save their careers.  Of course, they are amateurs at this kind of thing and Axl still has his own agenda.

Over-rated is over-rated as an insult. You really just sound like a hipster, and a particularly douchey one at that.

So is this a reboot or a sequel? Ratner's directing, so I guess it doesn't matter.

That won't work. Tasteless people will go and give him clapter for an hour and a half and he'll think nothing's wrong.

A live-action cartoon/musical.

there's nothing 'real' about it, except for the music, which was what (all those incredible blues and soul acts Belushi and Aykroyd loved) it was a love song to.

and yeah, it still is farking amazing.
