This is why gawking and rubbernecking is a good thing. Sometimes accidents happen and situational awareness can help you prepare to get out of the way...or just get out of the way early.

I believe.

Yeah, they're swinging a big metal pole around with a crane, and you were just going to blithely bike right past within a few feet? Good thinkin'!

You can also sometimes get a good vid of people who didn't get out of the way getting farked up horribly.

Just your average biker. Listen to the butthurt about people opening their car doors as if you can't foresee that people may be about to get out of cars that are parked.

Probably thought he had the right of way. Juuuust expected them to just drop everything for him. Well, they did. Happy now?

I ride, and do it in a way to avoid that sort of thing. I was in Georgetown once, threading my way through stalled traffic, and some helmetless dudebro went past me at speed, whipped around the cars on the curb side and ate a door just as a little girl opened it to get out. It was REALLY hard not to laugh. Then she opens the door on the OTHER side, right in front of me. I was going slow enough to stop, but that little girl was freaking out by that point.

He was standing with his bike 10' from the far end of the truck. The twenty foot pole hit the pavement near the back wheels and toppled over to hit the handle bars. Did you even watch the video? The guy operating the crane was a bit sloppy, letting the base of the pole hit a planter and start swinging, almost getting hit himself. He then lowered it to ground the pole and that loosened the cinch and released the pole entirely. We are lucky to have lived through it oueselves. It was Coventry, FFS.

If you notice, after the incident he ran across the road right in front of the truck, almost guaranteeing that if a car had been coming it would have struck him.

He shoulda been 12 feet back. I couldn't see him until after the pole hit him, and from TFA, it sounded like he was riding toward the pole when it fell, because he wasn't really paying attention. What weirded me out was that he was on the right side of the road, but it looks like there's a two-way bike path over there.

I didn't foresee it coming but you are right.

No barriers, the operator flubbed up the unloading, the operators assistant came damn close to eating that pole too but people are all over the sap on the bike.

Yes he should probably had a moment of thought that said, hrmm this looks iffy maybe I should wait a couple.  But there is a whole trail load of fail already at the station before it every involves him.

ArcadianRefugee: If you notice, after the incident he ran across the road right in front of the truck, almost guaranteeing that if a car had been coming it would have struck him.

He just took a 20 foot pole to the hand, between the "Holy crap I nearly died" and "Somovabiatch that hurts" you might want to give him a little slack at that point.

I see a lot of people who never road a bike much beyond training wheels. Fark, a car would have gotten clobbered too, it's not a common occurance.

Man this joke is TIRED...  lol

If UFOs aren't real (as in alien spacecraft), why are there astronauts, military officers, presidents and other government officials that seem to disagree?

What happened to the White House in 1952? What about RAF Woodbridge in 1980? Why is Ed Mitchel (who grew up on Roswell, NM), the 6th man to walk on the moon, saying that military officers confided to him that the Roswell incident really was an alien spacecraft?

It really doesn't take THAT much digging to find this information... Seriously folks... Get a brain...

Kahabut: Damn dude, are you trolling or are you REALLY that retarded?

Based on my experiences working at a state agency with both Human and Services in the title...

... look you already screwed up.  Don't make eye contact.  Back away slowly, but do not turn your back on them.  If they follow start speaking into your sleeve.  It doesn't matter that there is nothing in your sleeve.  Make your way to a crowded space with opportunities for concealment.  Do not show interest or fear.

OOBE Juan Kenobi: If UFOs aren't real

Of course UFOs are real... No one sane would ever claim otherwise... Nearly everyone has seen some flying object that they couldn't immediately identify!

OOBE Juan Kenobi: (as in alien spacecraft)

Ah, that's where you leap off the rails and into crazytown! Look, aliens exist, almost definitely... But, they're probably not visiting this little backwater shiathole planet... It's probably a stretch to even think manned interstellar travel is feasable at all... I love Star Trek as much as anyone, but a warp drive probably isn't going to happen... (Yes, it's theoretically possible, but it requires exotic matter with negative mass, which probably doesn't exist...)

Also, if you can positively ID them as alien spacecraft, then they're bloody well not UFOs anymore!

Half the posters on fark will claim to take a 20 foot pole to the hand 10 times a fortnight.
