Welcome to Farktography!

This Week's Theme: "How We See Ourselves"

: Self portraiture.

We ask that before submitting your photos you read and adhere to the following submission rules, including but not limited to the following:
- Submissions must be photographs; screen captures do not count as photographs.
- You must be the original photographer of your entry. Do not submit anyone else's photography as your own.
- You are only allowed to enter a photograph once. Do not submit the same photo to another contest later.
- You may enter 3 photos in each contest as long as each photo is of a different composition.
- Please post each photo separately so they can be voted for individually.

Please note:
The overarching ideal behind Farktography is that image corrections are acceptable, while adding or removing elements in the image (e.g. removing telephone poles, adding Elvis) is not acceptable. Levels, curves, contrast, saturation, crop, and black-and-white conversion tools may be used judiciously, but not to cartoonish or unrealistic extremes. Avoid applying artistic filters for the purpose of mimicking film, tilt-shift, toy camera, etc type effects. HDR and panorama stitching either in-camera or in post processing are not allowed unless specified for a particular theme (true multiple exposures done in-camera are acceptable, however). See the rules for more information on acceptable modifications, or check in at the Farktography Forums.

Legal: All photographers submitting photos to this contest are the legal copyright holders for the photos submitted and the photos are not to be considered free for any other use without written consent from the submitting photographers.
- Drop by the Farktography Forum on Fark (new window) or (for chatting, critique, techtalk and so on)
- Stats can be found here.

Part of a series I did while struggling with self-identity following the suicide of my late fiancé. Originally inspired by the visions scene from Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers; the word is projected via a homemade projector consisting of a maglight and a couple magnifying glasses.

The guys at work were betting on what I would wear to the company Christmas party. I'd heard things such as polyester leisure suit, Hawaiian print suit, tux with aloha shirt, and plaid dinner coat. They all lost.

Here's one I took with my old Nikon split-body back in 2006.  Mosaic mirror in the botanical gardens in Hanover.

What the hell?  Hey Mods, can you delete the one above?  Apparently Fark threw it away.

Just happened to be playing with my camera today, since I just got a new monolight to play with, and didn't have any willing subjects.  So I put my goofy looking ass in front of the lens for a change.  That's right, I'm rocking the Magnum P.I. chest hair package.

Cliche picture is cliche, but I liked it.  And yes, it's my old Rebel t3i.  It may be entry level, but it was a damn fine camera for a long time.

I don't always take a self-portrait along the Delaware Bay on a sub-zero day, but when I do, I prefer to post it on Fark.

Stay photogenic, my friends.

All photos from the Appalachian Trail again. It's hard to see myself as anything else at the moment, until I find something else to throw myself wholly into. Also, hard to get self-portraits while dancing.

1 - Fox Gap, PA on the morning of October 31st.
2014-05-08 10:12:39 AM
2 - McAfee Knob, VA just after a rain shower on April 29th, with camera held in place with improvised tripod.
2014-05-08 10:18:12 AM
3 - The northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail at Katahdin, ME on August 20th. My camera was able to join me in the photo by virtue of putting the SD card into someone else's camera. This wasn't the intended composition, but their camera had some screwy settings which included a very high ISO. I converted it to black and white to make the grain work with the image rather than against it, and changed it from a 4:3 aspect ratio which showed a few people in the background to a 4:5 which cropped them out.

Circa 1999.
I love it when kids tell me bathroom selfies are a 'smartphone' thing... Like they invented it or something. Of course I didn't invented it either.
