LaDue allegedly told authorities that he was fascinated by the school shootings at Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech and Columbine, and idolized Columbine shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.

Now where have I heard that before? Oh right.
"The reporter looked disappointed, so I offered her my theory. "Events like this," I said, "if they are influenced by anything, are influenced by news programs like your own. When an unbalanced kid walks into a school and starts shooting, it becomes a major media event. Cable news drops ordinary programming and goes around the clock with it. The story is assigned a logo and a theme song; these two kids were packaged as the Trench Coat Mafia. The message is clear to other disturbed kids around the country: If I shoot up my school, I can be famous. The TV will talk about nothing else but me. Experts will try to figure out what I was thinking. The kids and teachers at school will see they shouldn't have messed with me. I'll go out in a blaze of glory."

"In short, I said, events like Columbine are influenced far less by violent movies than by CNN, the NBC Nightly News and all the other news media, who glorify the killers in the guise of "explaining" them.

The reporter thanked me and turned off the camera. Of course the interview was never used. They found plenty of talking heads to condemn violent movies, and everybody was happy."

It's actually a carbon copy of the Columbine attack.

One of the things people don't realize is that Columbine was a failed *BOMBING*.  Shooting the kids was Plan B, in case the propane tank-based bombs didn't go off, which thankfully, they didn't.  As bad as Columbine was, it could have been much, much worse.

Why do these mf'ers shoot up schools where honest, hard working, salt of the earth people work?

Why can't they go to a private country club or gated community and massacre douche bags born on third base, who think they hit triples?

Lt. Cheese Weasel: BeerGraduate: Lt. Cheese Weasel: BeerGraduate: Ban guns. Problem solved.

Which problem would that be?

Mass shootings, obviously

You seem sure about that.  It's almost as if you truly believe that people who want to kill others won't do it because there is a law that says they can't have guns.  It's so cute. You're a special kind of stupid, aren't you?

Gah. I realize I shouldn't go here, but I'm going to. And bear in mind that I used to carry firearms professionally. I have qualified as an expert marksman with a bunch of things whose names start with "M-". My 76-year-old mother has a CFL. I like guns.

Having said that, what's your solution? At least the people who say "let's ban all guns" are offering something. There is- there has got to be- some sort of middle ground between "let's get rid of the damn things" and "Oh, well, what are you going to do about it?"

I'm sick of mass shootings. I'm also sick of hearing people calling for the disarmament of the nation after every mass shooting. But, I'm ALSO sick of hearing people say "Well, this is the greatest country in the world, but there's absolutely nothing we can do to prevent these mass shootings. They're just part of life. If we didn't have them, the killer would just use a trebuchet, halberd, and mace. There's no point in having this conversation, because it's an absolutely unsolvable problem" after every mass shooting.

Sorry about the rant. I just needed to get that off my chest.

Made it thru 100 commens and didn't see anyone point out "no sh*t sherlock" comment from police. If this is the caliber of police officer in the town it could have been real bad!

Abe Vigoda's Ghost: SpdrJay: Oh, so were arresting people for just planning to bomb and kill now????

Thought-crime 1984, anyone?

Except he had already planted some bombs at the school.

The investigation began March 24, when melting snow revealed a pair of devices on the Hartley Elementary School playground in Waseca. Police say one of the devices had detonated while the second had failed to ignite.
Four days later a third device was found inside of a stuffed toy. It was already detonated.

Now granted, it sounds like these 'bombs' may have not been much more then glorified firecrackers, but he obviously has some sort of mental malfunction.

What if Alanis Morrisette's song "Ironic" was actually properly named due to the fact that it contained no true examples of literary irony?

What is the fourth one down?

Mosin nagan m44

An underpowered pistol bullet taking down a big deer? Must have been a lucky shot.

You think that rifle fires an "underpowered pistol" caliber?

.308Win is an underpowered pistol round?

They're confusing the Springfield M1a (which is an M-14 clone firing the .308) with an M1 Carbine (of which the .30 ammo is fairly underpowered).

Of course, it's all "gun semantics".  People TRULY concerned with safety don't let themselves be confused by minutiae like "facts".  For example, from the recently ought-to-be published, Dianne Feinstein's Big Book of Guns That Will Kill Your Children:

It's a Mosin-Nagant M44. They scaled-down the M91/30 for urban combat.

That, and the hunting photo on his Facebook page.  I'm thinking that the firearms were probably purchased by the parents for the intent of hunting, and he decided to use them for a more nefarious purpose.  Ammo ain't cheap nowadays, and it's hard to build up a stockpile unnoticed.  That is, unless the parents are completely clueless.

 M-14.

Springfield M1a. So his parents have money to throw around. Most teens aren't hunting with 2000 dollars worth of nostalgic gun wankery

An underpowered pistol bullet taking down a big deer? Must have been a lucky shot. Hell, it could be anything, it's a common style. And a good gimmick: they make shotguns that look like AK 47s too.

By the way, ain't that photo sweet? It's almost like the dead deer is a pet now.

It's .308.  A perfect calibre for deer.

I'm wondering this as well. I mean yeah, its not impossible to keep secrets from your family, but to have amassed so many weapons, how the hell did he get his hands on this stuff?

Firearms are currency among criminals, and anyone with some basic know how can rig explosives or properly set something on fire.
It's the same old problem of society trying to manage tools while letting a thinking malicious entity run around unchecked. The attackers just invent new and more elaborate plans.

I mean, seventeen with a storage unit... no one was looking at anything this kid did for a while now.

I think we will find the typical parental trainwreck behind this kid. Decided after a few years they did not want to have kids anymore, did not want to be married anymore, did not want responsibilities anymore. You will probably find two "adults" who are much more concerned about themselves than anyone else. That is the best way to raise a sociopath.
