Well, I'm glad that didn't happen to a bunch of parked Corvettes.

The owners of the red car and two grey cars are some lucky folks. Those cars may actually be undamaged, just ... in a ditch.

xanadian: yeah....could've used a little more erosion control, I guess...

/but seriously...looks like the flow undercut the bulkhead.
//not much you can do about that, other than have the dike go under the riverbed even deeper, I guess

The other side of the wall dropped down to train tracks. There's no river there...

FYI

That is the CSX rail line that runs through part of the city. Several spots like that where the tracks run below street level but there are small tunnels under the cross streets, probably a good 100yrs old in some places. Several days of heavy rain, the ground is already saturated and yesterday Baltimore totaled the 2nd heaviest rainfall amount in it's recorded history. It just gave away there. The basic Infrastructure in plenty of places in the US is ready to fall apart. All it needs is a little push in some places.

This is the result of any lack of infrastructure funding to this street.  Thank Obama.

I will never understand screaming.  I've encountered scary shiat and never screamed, not because I'm not scared or so tough or something, but because I'm usually doing something much more useful like running away or scrambling to escape.  But standing there screaming?  (Because that's what the screamers do, they just stand there.)  Well, I guess we know who's more likely to die from inaction in a calamity.

Here are some pics I took when I was living in Santo Domingo. The truck was a new Toyota FJ.

We just had a ton of rain and the retaining wall gave out. Thankfully no one was hurt.

There's a pretty hefty fine for filling in wetlands, buddy. If you don't have a permit, the future's gonna be mighty expensive.

Now get OSHA on the phone, ain't a single person in that video wearing a hard hat.

The same can be said of most cars in Baltimore.

Most of those cars might actually be OK, depending on how they get them out. A crane that could pick them straight up?

It'll be cleared out pretty fast. CSX runs through there, and they'd like their tracks back.

Oh.  I see the tracks in the tunnel, now.  All I noticed earlier was the water.

Either way, looks like the bulkhead got undercut.

Speaking as someone who has watched their home and property get destroyed by a natural disaster, more than once...that lady needed to be smacked.

Lol, that is what I was thinking. A good 'ol slap across the face, for medicinal purposes.

I think I would scream like that if a pack of wolves started gnawing on my legs, but shock would probably set in and I'd just freeze up.

She was screaming because she knew she was going to have to deal with the insurance company later?

Well..... uh.....

Yeah... I can buy that.

It's annoying to us because we're sitting in the comfort and safety of our own homes watching the video. You stand outside and witness the ground you've taken for granted all your life start collapsing 20 feet away.

For anyone blaming Obama for lack of infrastructure spending, here is Paul Krugman to give you some aid:

But don't forget to blame Larry Summers as well.

When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a road on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up!
