Call me paranoid, but...I'd have taken more than a few steps back when that first started to go. Just to be safe.

/but seriously...looks like the flow undercut the bulkhead.
//not much you can do about that, other than have the dike go under the riverbed even deeper, I guess

It think it's safe to say that you never experienced a natural disaster that damaged something that would cost you lots of money to replace.... Or having to deal with insurance companies looking after their own interest..

// just saying,troll

2014-05-01 08:14:19 PM
I parked my car and I parked it down. Climbed a mountain and I turned around. And I saw my reflection in a car's side mirror, till a landslide brought it down.

2014-05-01 08:14:32 PM
Looks like Google's gonna have to change their maps.

Damn, that was pretty farking cool.

She was screaming because she knew she was going to have to deal with the insurance company later?

Well..... uh.....

Yeah... I can buy that.

Maybe they shouldn't have built the street on collapsing land.

2014-05-01 08:17:38 PM
And why would you park on a street with an angle like that? That's just asking for trouble.

2014-05-01 08:17:54 PM
If I lived in one of those houses I think I'd be booking a mover right about now.

2014-05-01 08:18:20 PM
The screaming reaction is really interesting. I wonder if it's been widely studied.

Remember that video a few months back of the large, tourist-filled boat sinking and the woman on the rescue boat just shrieking her head off?

I guess we need to have some emergency-shriekers in every group, because in certain situations it would be useful to alert others to the need for assistance.

Ya I can't think of any personal property that, were I to watch it being demolished, would warrant hysterics.

I can't stand the thought of people losing so much of their lives to things like natural disasters.

This vid f*cking kills me. Lost their home to that mudslide in CO.

In the before picture it looks like it is settling quite a bit already.  This looks like a disaster that has been waiting to happen.

Because we don't have stuff like that around here. That never happens. This isn't a regular flood zone or something. (Which made me wonder, and apparently it's an engineering failure. Nothing that would normally happen.)

2014-05-01 08:30:37 PM
Whoever runs for that area's City Council spot should win by a landslide if they can get those people's insurance claims expedited.

well, when it actually collapsed the video shut off in a hurry as they moved away from it.  so good observations, Captain Oblivious.

2014-05-01 08:30:45 PM
The best part?  Both CSX and the city knew about this impending issue 16 years ago, and that was because the earth surrounding the construction had been sinking for 15 years up to that point:
