Today is Hector's first birthday! He has been with me for a little over 5 months now and is just the silliest and sweetest cat. He was the perfect addition to the household to help me heal over the loss of Mandu (who I still miss every day but the heart pain is much less).

How can you cry when being forced to look in this face every time you sit down at the computer?

Here he is snuggling in the rocking chair:

And his new favorite perch:

Frightened no more

Too frightened to speak,
I hold my tongue
And cower.

Others pass me by,
Never truely

What is in plain sight.

I am afraid to speak.
Who will respond?

Who will hear my tiny voice?

Will they love me?

Or practice thier cruelty
Upon me.

I am almost
Beyond caring.

I have struggled
For so long.

Hoping for release.

Caught up,
In my distress,

I must have uttered
A sound.

My heart
Thunders in my chest.

I hear someone.
Calling softly.

Beckoning with
Gentle murmurs.

A hand reaches out.

A whisper of a touch.

The silent snick,
Felt, not heard

Of a heart unlocking.

I creep forth.

Arms enfold me,
Tears dance upon my brow.

A moment of grace.
I am found.

I am,
Frightened no more.

John Buck 41: query on giving cats distemper shots (don' know nuthin' 'bout goggies).

Yep, you CAN do this...but only the distemper, etc. Vet still has to do the rabies.
I bought mine at Dog Vaccines for Less; single dose 4-way with FeLv (anti-leukemia).
You can get it without the FeLv too (costs much less, but I lost one to feline leukemia and said "Never Again!").
If your cats are indoor-only they probably don't need it...just all my gang considers the Great Wide Open part of their territory.

Thing is, you have to spend at least $70 if you buy them here. I got around that by buying 8 doses (2 years worth for my clowder) and the serum lives in my refrigerator until it's time to be used.
This particular outfit will send you the syringes as well as the serum.

I give unto you, John Buck 41, the fruit of several days of increasingly frustrating computer searching about a year ago trying to find single-dose shots. Everyone I checked out seemed to have batches of no less than 25.
I'm not THAT crazy a cat lady...

How ya do it:
I take the serum out of the fridge about 10 minutes before I'm going to use it (allow it to warm up a bit) and then use the syringe to draw it out and mix it with the FeLv (it's a powder). You'll need some air in the syringe in order to draw the serum as it's negative pressure in the bottles.
Shake well, then draw the mixture into the syringe. You may need a bit more air here in order to do so.
I put my victim cat up on the table, tell them what I'm going to do and why*, then administer the shot in the neck scruff.
The first time will be hard; "Oh my god, I'm sticking a needle in my cat, he'll never forgive me!" and the skin of the scruff is surprisingly tough (I maked a rhyme!).
Just grit your teeth and DO IT, then massage the area after you withdraw the needle. Praising your cat for good behavior and giving a treat will help with the next time you have to do this.

Brag Alert:
My clowder is very cooperative for this...they'll sit sitll and relaxed and sometimes even purr. I've given them their shots since they were bebbies, so this is SOP for them

* I don't know how much they actually take in...whether they understand the gist, or it's just a soothing voice.
It's just a good idea to keep them in the loop as to what's going on. They're more likely to cooperate that way.

Terrific photo, that's one of your kitties isn't it gunk? :)

Glad you like the photo, the kitty is lovely and I only wish he/she was mine!  But is a random internet kitty.  First husband was and current husband is allergic to cats (in fact I gave up a cat to be with first husband -- turned out not to be the best decision I ever made, god dammit, but oh well, live and learn).  So I went with chihuahuas instead.  :)  Currently am mommy to Buddy the Amazing Wonder Dog.

Maybe one day I will have cats again, but I adore my current family situation just as it is, so I am content to "cat" vicariously through others.   :)

Well, that was kinda easy. My mom yelled something about not digging a hole in the yard (I woulda used the smoker if I went the long route for my cochinita) not finishing it for me which she knew would happen because I am sickly and that we are not Mexicans, so she is making meatloaf.

No she is not. I'm making the meatloaf - today, while I feel OK. It shall be Mexican inspired. Chorizo, beef, salsa, my taco spices, corn chips, cheese. That should do rather nicely, I think. So, I am off to put on my sunscreen and go to the market before the church people get out and swarm the place. Some of them don't seem to realize you're supposed to put your Sunday roast in the oven BEFORE you go to church and that stuff shoulda all been purchased yesterday before bedtime - at the latest. It's tradition!

California Chrome natch, as predicted.
Earlier comments of cat(s) being on wrong side of closed closet/pantry door: Yakko's been doing that a lot lately. Gets into pantry whenever he gets chance.  Plumbicon doesn't really know yet to look for him within, but I sure do! Pl closed pantry door as we left to go someplace few days ago, I didn't see him do so w/o looking. Howls from within on return, Y had knocked couple open containers of packaged items over.
Tho it's barely dark, is time for us to make rounds then go crash.  0dark30 is actual needed arising time on morrow.  May well both nap with help afterward.  Scheduled afternoon sing for my chorus is now off, so we can.
Bas Bleu  cat lover's sleepshirt, dunno if still carried.  Didna buy NYr Big Book of Cats  on sale, much as wished to!
Not yet able to use all those nifty font applications mentioned before; not found/made/taken time to have at.  CUL in full glaring daylight on morrow  . Rain not predicted til evening; was predicted for this AM but only few drops fell on us.  Good Night FM.

lilyspad: Snuffybud: 6:24 according to my newspaper

I think they should throw everyone for a loop, and run in the opposite direction! Now THAT would be entertaining!! :D

My little Mountain is a great grandson of Seattle Slew, he was raced a long time and took home a lot of money for his owners. He was given to me as a companion to Castle as they will not adopt a horse to home without another horse for company. They told me he had a back injury and could never be ridden, we found he had (and still has) a nasty fungus infection in the bottom of his feet. We have it almost cleared up and find that he has nothing wrong with his back at all, he just didn't want to move with his sore feet.
I have ridden him a few times and discovered that he has never been trained as a riding horse. He only knows, go, stop, and turn left! I can pull him around to turn right but if we are in the ring working and he is going clockwise, he will suddenly stop and try to go the other way. Too funny to see his face, what is this madness, he says.
The little stinker has learned to get in the garage/shop/feed room and knock over the empty feed bins.
I stacked all kinds of stuff in the doorway to keep him out once I discovered why the feed cans were tipped over. The pile of road apples behind the table saw was a dead giveaway.
I had one tiny opening because I was going in and out getting tools and equipment to work in the yard. I did not think a horse could get through this. Castle would never even try because he is not comfortable in tight spaces.
img.fark.netThe "who me?" look I got when I surprised him in the garage, he backed up over the air hose, past the chainsaw gas, and out the little opening without knocking stuff over or getting tangled. Castle was waiting for him outside the door.

/I know I need to straighten out the shop but I only have split days off and too much to do on those days
//Thought that no sane horse would even try to get in there.
/// Mountain is very clever and not afraid to get into small spaces.
//// wonder how much trouble he got into when he was at the track, he knows lots of funny little tricks that people have taught him over the years. He will sneak a sip of coffee if he can, he loves peppermints and Guinness stout.

Real Women Drink Akvavit: syzygy whizz: John Buck 41: Our 4 critters all went to the vet this week for their annuals (and a couple booster shots). $180 for the cats, $80 for the dogs. Ouch.

Thanks for reminding me, John Buck 41 (no, really!)...
My 'middle kids' - (Wimsey and D'Artagnan) are due for their 3 year rabies boosters.
I can give them their distemper etc., shots at home...but I gotta take 'em to the vet for the rabies one.
They'll be their cooperative, angelic selves (deceptive little that they are)...
and they shall have LOTS of catnip when we get home.

The Gogh Beastie doesn't have to go in until Sept/Oct (IIRC), but I've pretty much decided to start rounding up cats that seem to spend an inordinate amount of time in my yard and get them vaccinated if they aren't chipped. I have no idea how I'll afford that, because it's spendy out here, but I really don't want to risk another tear filled journey to see Dr H about a critically ill cat.

I would explain to the good doc that you just want the shots, no exam, because they are ferals, as far as you know. They should be willing to wand them for a chip without charge..or ask if you get abherd discount if you bring in 2 or more kittehs.

Pic 2, for Hector, saved 3-8-13 when spinach gunk fetched it for someone or somecat other's Natal Anniv, Gotcha Day or similar.
Pig Walk not as enjoyable this yr as last, 99.4% own fault. Ignored or misread directions, began from wrong location so no rendezvous  with chorus mates until all finnished. Walk T appears to be brown this time; won't get one as pick-up directions next to absent for early collectors of numbered bibs.
Chorusmate didn't get bib yesterday but today just prior to start, given Walk T to wear.
Purrsonal time was 1:02:06 from initial start.  Chorus mate who got us into this managed :54.  Had rendezvous  been possible,. I couldn't've kept up.
Coulda picked up cue as Plumbicon's chorus mates all got theirs ahead of time.
i.imgur.comThis has Pigcasso on front; brown Walk Ts didn't appear to. At least these'll be loud enough at 5:30AM reporting time.
Pl's concerned tho that sound trailer might not be allowed in; he didn't think of this til last eve, already too late to seek clearance.  Org said backpacks wouldna be allowed this yr, but I saw some little ones worn.  Also saw at last 4 goggies walking 5k w their masters/ mistresses; one bitty Yorkie needed run to keep up, but also bitty enough to be carried from time to time.

I dare you all not to go into diabetic shock after viewing this photo.

This was taken by my friends wife. These are two ferals that they took in during the winter to keep them safe. This could be straight out of a kitten calendar.

The Black/White/Orange one is the mom, the orange and white one is her son.

Annie is a little semi-feral that was born on a farm my co-worker rents. The place came with a dog and many feral cats. An orange queen gave birth to a small litter but she is not a good mom, she abandon the tortoiseshell and moved the rest to a someplace inaccessible. A day later the little calico was found abandoned in front of the dog pen. The torti was adopted by another queen with some older kittens but when Annie was put in with her sister and the older kittens, mom cat seemed overwhelmed. Co-worker is supplementing with KMR but Annie tried to eat gooshy food instead.
She is a bright tri-color calico like old Maynerd and Mandy were. I don't know if Oma Cassie will accept and help take care of little Annie, I think Tom will be OK with her as he is pretty cool, Max is just Max and will be OK but I worry about Li-Ion as I believe he is responsible for the loss of both Flower and Forrest. He still makes every effort to kill Oma Cassie and I have to be very careful about doors and where each of them are at all times.
I did just go out and get six new keets for the farm as the fleas and tick here are outrageous, I spotted several snakes last year so I think I need to run some Guineafowl to help clean up the place.
I spend more on animal feed than people food now.

Hai SG!!! Good to see you! Hope Buddy is still eating like a champ!

Thanks, good to see you too!

His appetite has levelled off a little bit in the past couple days.  He wouldn't eat lunch today at all, but it is unusually warm and humid out.  He did eat a big breakfast though.  And lots of treats.  :)  Either way he's still consuming a respectable amount and seems quite contented otherwise so we'll just roll with that.

Hope you're feeling much better soon!  I hate those soggy head-colds.  I'm a side-sleeper so when I come down with that kind of thing I have to wake up once an hour and turn myself over so the sopping full side of my face can drain while the empty side takes a turn getting full.  Blargh!  :op

I assume you are having no problem drinking plenty of fluids.  :)

Take care and hang in there.

I admit I have a calico addiction.
I have more than I can afford right now.
Li-Ion is a psycho around Cassie, another female is not a good idea.
Will Cassie take to a very young lady?
I may have already named her and I haven't even met her yet.
It's not a good idea, It's not a good idea, It's not a good idea.

So, most of us who live in areas that get seasons (Ahem - WINTER) probably have a tote not unlike this one.  This one is just for my winter hats/scarves/gloves/etc (the mister has his own tote).  In a rush one morning this past winter I pulled the tote from the closet and grabbed what I needed.  Mr. Station sent me this photo not long after:

(the mister also informed me that in attempting to re-configure his comfort, Buster managed to roll himself *and* the tote off the table and onto the floor.

This is another 4 day weekend for me! Yes, I planned that for after our big sale.  I'm going to do some grilling if it kills me!!! I already bought a rack of ribs, and some brats for another day! I even got me some sauerkraut!! YUM!

For some unholy reason, I always think "chocolate cake" when I hear "sauerkraut" even though I have never made such a cake nor have I ever used sauerkraut in any manner other than the traditional American and Germanic ways. Bizarre, ain't it?

How do you do laundry? They really made my day. But I m glad to be out of the period clothes. Gosh they get heavy!

That does sound like you had fun! One of my "cousins" did the traveling Ren Faire thing for years and I honestly don't know how she wore some of the costumes she wore. I borrowed things from her a couple times and they were not exactly what I would consider every day attire. Can you imagine having to wear that old timey clothing stuff all day, every day? Gah! No thank you.

OK, I gotta admit this was the most technically challenging lolcat I've captioned so far.  Needed to express what the cat's expression was indicating, choose words that looked looked like they were complimenting the physical appearance of the cat's face, and all this while getting a phrase that would actually FIT in the pic.

How did I do?...

For those of you who are also dieting...I got something called Premier Protein Shakes at Costco (they're in the pharmacy department). They come in chocolate and vanilla; 160 calories and 30 grams of protein. This helped me IMMENSELY with the "I'm so hungry I'm going to kill someone and eat them!" grumpies...
I mix them 1:1 with whole milk (hey, just because I'm dieting doesn't mean I have to give up EVERYTHING nice). The vanilla has a very strong flavor...I prefer the chocolate, but YMMV.

Fifty lbs down since January...must be doing something right...but those Weight Watcher and Special K commercials that show happy women dancing around cos they supposedly lost weight...
They LIE.
My body is saying "Dude, WTF are you DOING to me?!" and doesn't believe me when I say "Trust me, it's for your own'll thank me later. Really."

I hate the taste of cow's milk... So I mix my protein shakes with unsweetened Almond Milk, unsweetened Coconut Milk, or the tasty new version that's a mix of the two.  I love the taste :)  And great job on the weight loss!!

q_j - Dood!  Stoppit!  Hopefully everything goes swimmingly :)  **Big Hugs** and wishes for speedy recovery!!!

lilyspad - Get better fastly!

Aaaaaannndd... I can't remember what everyone else said anymore.  Dammit.  Oh, well... It's the last really nice, warm day before we go back to cold and raining, so I need to get my rear in gear and do some stuffs.  The cats aren't impressed with how much I've been outside, but they're happy to have their windows open... so I guess it works out ok.

New pics of Lars from yesterday or the day before.  I was laughing so very hard.  When he fell asleep, the blankie was thrown over the back/arm of the sofa.  The longer he stayed there, the more it fell over onto him.  Normally he HATES blankies on top of him, so I was surprised he just lived with it falling onto him for over an hour!

Sorry about the picture quality... not the greatest lighting and I had to use the camera on the front of my phone so I didn't disturb him.

Wall of text alert

I had another appointment at the cardiologist today.
I had to stop for a blood test before going to the appointment.
It turned into a roller coaster ride and I just about have whiplash from all the twists and turns.
This is gonna be one of those TMI things, so you may want to skip to the next Weeners...
I got out without any further braids.
I was told that since we weren't having any luck with all the diuretics, they were going to admit me to the hospital.
"OK, you're the doctor..."
She went off to get stuff arranged and left me sitting in the exam room.

I sent a text to several friends to let them know.
I also called the neighbor across the street to let her know she was going to need to feed Mr. Kitty.
Shortly after I got all that handled, she came back in and told me there was a change of plans.
They wanted to do another 80mg IV diuretic, bump my diuretic pills and see me again Monday.
"OK, you're the doctor..."
I sent out another text saying there was a change of plans and that they were going to be letting me go home after all.
I called the neighbor across the street back to let her know she wouldn't need to feed Mr. Kitty after all.

A gal came in and inserted an IV, set out the paraphernalia and the bottle of piss-juice and said a nurse would be right with me.
A few minutes later, she came back with a second, much bigger bottle of piss-juice.
A few minutes later, she came back and took the big bottle and came back with two medium bottles.
Then I waited.
And I waited.
And I waited some more.

Then my doctor came back in and told me there was another change of plans.
The results from the blood draw had come back in the interim and some of the numbers weren't good.
Those numbers indicated that my kidneys aren't performing up to snuff, and that the level of diuretics they were planning on giving me might not be so prudent. They needed to do some consulting amongst themselves and would probably be sending me to the hospital after all.
They told me to sit tight and wait a few more minutes.

About 40 minutes later, they came back and told me they had decided to go ahead and do the IV piss-juice.
They also bumped the diuretic pills I was to take tonight.
They also doubled my potassium supplement.
They also wanted me to come back Friday instead of Monday as well as have another blood draw.
Oh! And while they were at it, they decided that I needed to have my pacemaker removed and replaced with model that also has a defibrillator. (I don't know it will have wi-fi or accept K-cups).

tl:dr version...

I go in Friday.
I figure they'll throw me in the hospital and try to get as much water off of me as possible over the weekend.
Then Monday (assuming they get enough fluid off), they'll slice me and do the pacemaker switch.

If they're as smart as they should be, they should sell me to the gypsies and call it a successful day.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I just wanted to pass the word along.
Wish me luck.

And a critter..

That is so cute!

Thank you!  She's finally coming out of her shell a bit - she's got severe anxiety issues and the shelter gave her to me (no adoption fees) just to ensure she was in a good home so they wouldn't have to euthanize her.  She's been here since late January and is starting to play now, both with toys and with the other kitties.  Progress - slow, but definitely progress!  I hope she'll eventually grow out of the need to overgroom until she's bloody, poor girl...  such a love!  She adores my daughter and gives her big (claw-filled) hugs whenever she comes over.  Daughter lives across the hall, so Mollie sees her almost every day.

Oh, congrats! Were you trying to lose weight? I am so bad at the losing weight thing. I lost some weight, then gained some back. Then I lost another weight or some and gained some of that back. So I'm still down some pounds, but not like a normal person who is supposed to be losing weight would be. But that's ok! I'm gonna die some day anyway and then I truly will no longer give a crap, because then the weight will come off naturally. It really does all work out in the end!
