The kitties got new collars in honor of Star Wars day tomorrow.

Mrs. Buck groaned hard when I told her that joke.

My husband is both a Star Wars fan and a mathematician so we celebrate both May 4th and March 14th. There's usually cake.

I'm one of those crazy people who has signed onto the Tau manifesto.

/mathematically nice, but not as tasty

Could be as tasty, just bring 2 pies to Tau day festivities

Hmmm... FARK won't let me post pictures, some sort of XSS attempt warning, must investigate further. ;-(

That's what happened to me last week or so, remember?
It's a NoScript thing (at least that what it was for me)
I got the word from the NoScript folks to add a line to the NoScript XSS tab under Options.
I can't post it verbatim because Fark boogers it up....

You can read the conversation here and get the solution..

John Buck 41: ArmednHammered: John Buck 41: A little recipe help, please? I'm making chicken cacciatore tomorrow. Can I sub vermouth for white wine? Thanks.

Yes, you can substitute vermouth for wine. I've used it when pan cooking steaks and chicken and I've had very good luck. I'm not much of a cook though, so it won't hurt my feelings if you wait for one of our pros to weigh in. ;-)

Thanks! I'm gonna go with the V. I already have it on hand (for the occasional martini) and I hate to buy a bottle of wine as I'm not a wine drinker.

A number of wine makers have a 3 serving box of wine. It is an excellent way to have wine on hand for cooking. They all have a plastic cap on them..dunno how long the wine stays fresh in one of them..:)

Good Meowning! I hope your sleep was refreshing! I still feel like I could snooze, but Eli and my stomach decided it was time for me to rise. Not shining yet. Not finished with first cup of coffee.

I haz concert this evening, Mozart's Great mass in C minor. And it is First Communion for the kids in the parish. One of my students is among them, so I will have to get all gussied up today.

Hopefully Eli will let me take a nap with him sometime later today. :) he let me sleep with him last night. Hehe.

We had a good chin scritch session last night and I finally had the phone nearby when the derp-face occurred. (the other giant furball drools mega drool drops on ya when he's blissed out from scritches.  Its gross!)

My internet kept going down yesterday, so I finally gave up. I raided my change jar which was previously used for treats on the fly, but I fly no more, so it's fair game now. I bought Maybelline's Color Show new "muted neons" line of nail polish and swatched every last shade on my nails. Today I shall make my nails look like a rainbow sherbet! Right now they're nekkid, so I got a head start on it. I also bought the Gogh Beastie some more treats for his treat ball. He "plays" with it by standing next to it and yowling until someone rolls it for him and a treat falls out. He's obviously smarter than we are, but what cat isn't?

The last "diner" type restaurant I worked at, many years ago, was near a train station. A lot of folks commute from the 'burbs into neighboring cities or downtown areas for the higher wages using the trains. We didn't open until 5:00, but there was a train leaving at 5:05, so around 4:30 or so we'd have people stacking up outside wanting coffee TO GO, before the train left. We were a lot cheaper than buying it in the train station and they knew this. We called them "trained zombies" (of course!) and when morning revenue mysteriously went up and we were running out of pastries daily, the boss dude got excited. Then he found out I was actually opening up 15 minutes early and just not letting the two early morning wait staff seat anyone until 5:00. It was all take out coffee, breakfast burritos and pastries. He made us start opening at 4:30 after that. I went from hero of the waitstaff (people who know you're not open but you are being nice and letting the give you their money tend to tip very well) to evil incarnate in one swoop of the pen on the schedule. That'll learn me to be all nice and shiat, won't it? (Actually, it did not. I learned nothing from that. NOTHING.)

It's fancier than my babies need too. Only criteria for them: places to scratch and two platforms high enough for both to watch the birdies and lay in the sun at the same time. Only criteria for me: under $100.

Thanks RWDA, good morning to you too! We could definitely use a little of that heat around here, been doing an ugly snowing/melting cycle for two months now. Anyhoo, scritches delivered and well received, Abby sends purr-love back your way.. :)

With the energy rates going up this month we can sure use it! But yeah they're great cuddlers, at least until 5.45am when Julian decides it's time for gushy food (6am be damned) and he starts claw-dancing and digging at the bed sheets. Definitely the most reliable alarm clock I've ever owned. ;)

Now that is a hot button topic among the cognoscenti, pi or tau. It's like Pepsi v Coke.

This one's a couple of weeks old, but you can still make out a little of his....um....'muscular' stature.

I am not sure I want to make enchiladas for cinco de mayo. I really want cochinita pibil, but I am uncertain if I can get the banana leaves on such short notice. I'm also uncertain I want to do that much work. I'm kinda thinking of grabbing a pork and using the spices for cochinita, but browning it and then tossing it in the crock pot, like I was making crock pot carnitas. Maybe add just a tiny touch of liquid smoke to it to replicate the whole fire pit/smoker thing. Is that cheating? Oh, Lady Hel, yes! Will it be tasty? I hope so, because the more I think about it, the more I want to do it. lol!

Sometimes I think some Mexican lady had a really white baby and they got us confused in the hospital. Now she's got a grown daughter that wants lutefisk and lefse and cream sauce who thinks asada is barely edible and I'm over here trying to figure out if I want them and then where I can find banana leaves for tomorrow's meal.

Well, that was kinda easy. My mom yelled something about not digging a hole in the yard (I woulda used the smoker if I went the long route for my cochinita) not finishing it for me which she knew would happen because I am sickly and that we are not Mexicans, so she is making meatloaf.

No she is not. I'm making the meatloaf - today, while I feel OK. It shall be Mexican inspired. Chorizo, beef, salsa, my taco spices, corn chips, cheese. That should do rather nicely, I think. So, I am off to put on my sunscreen and go to the market before the church people get out and swarm the place. Some of them don't seem to realize you're supposed to put your Sunday roast in the oven BEFORE you go to church and that stuff shoulda all been purchased yesterday before bedtime - at the latest. It's tradition!
