John Buck 41: syzygy whizz: John Buck 41: Our 4 critters all went to the vet this week for their annuals (and a couple booster shots). $180 for the cats, $80 for the dogs. Ouch.

Thanks for reminding me, John Buck 41 (no, really!)...
My 'middle kids' - (Wimsey and D'Artagnan) are due for their 3 year rabies boosters.
I can give them their distemper etc., shots at home...but I gotta take 'em to the vet for the rabies one.

Anyone can do that? 'Cos taking 2 animals at a time to the vet is a huge PITA. The dogs, not so bad, but the cats were a nightmare. Mickey/Jazzy are fine in the car but Ripley/Jasper need to be confined. AARRGGHH (Tuesday for the cats, Friday for the dogs). Luckily Mrs. Buck accompanied me/us both times so it was bearable.

It depends on the state but I think all of them permit you to do the 4-way combo and the leukemia at home. I do that with the adult cats who are in good health. The younger and older ones I go ahead and take in just for the check-ups.

This is another 4 day weekend for me! Yes, I planned that for after our big sale.  I'm going to do some grilling if it kills me!!! I already bought a rack of ribs, and some brats for another day! I even got me some sauerkraut!! YUM!

Also acceptable...

 - If it's grillin', I'm chillin'.
 - If it's barbeque, I'm sleepin' too.
 - If it's a cookout, I'm layin' flat out.
 - If it's a clambake, I a nap take.

If it's Derby Day, I'm herpy way.

tigerose: I would explain to the good doc that you just want the shots, no exam, because they are ferals, as far as you know. They should be willing to wand them for a chip without charge..or ask if you get abherd discount if you bring in 2 or more kittehs.

I should have thought of that! Thanks! I'm working on getting Sir Earl the Grey more manageable, and I'm telling myself he shouldn't be too hard. Well, I HOPE not. Someone got a flea collar on him at one point, but he seems to be the cat version of a fear biter and he's afraid of EVERYTHING. Especially other cats, though. He screams like he's being murdered if they even try to come up to him and then tries to attack them if he's cornered - or if they're between him and some food. He may be a bit of a challenge, but I'm hoping it's still not as bad or as long a process as dealing with a truly feral cat. He did let me pick him up the other day, but I've always been much better with cats than most other folks AND I'm the one who's been feeding him, so who knows how he'll act with others and in a strange environment when I save the $$$ to take him in.

/Earl's a neutered male, so I don't have to worry about that part at least

You are channeling anyone with a bit of good taste! That's pretty much how I cook stuffs. "What do I have and what else do I have?" and in it goes. Seasonings can be adjusted and flavors balanced as you go.

I kinda want a grilled cheese sammich, but not the boring old usual grilled cheese. I'm thinking of going to the store for some strawberries, because those sound good, too. Of course then I thought "I know grilled cheese and apples is good and grilled cheese and pears is good - I wonder how strawberry grilled cheese would taste?" because strawberries do taste good with fresh, mild cheeses if you're going the cheese route.

Now I'm pondering a panela and strawberry quesadilla, because why the fark not? How I went from "grilled cheese, maybe tomater soup" to "make homemade tortillas with black pepper, buy strawberries and panela and make quesadillas - can we get some balsamic in there somewhere?" I honestly don't know. I think it's because I'm hungry.

My little Mountain is a great grandson of Seattle Slew, he was raced a long time and took home a lot of money for his owners. He was given to me as a companion to Castle as they will not adopt a horse to home without another horse for company. They told me he had a back injury and could never be ridden, we found he had (and still has) a nasty fungus infection in the bottom of his feet. We have it almost cleared up and find that he has nothing wrong with his back at all, he just didn't want to move with his sore feet.
I have ridden him a few times and discovered that he has never been trained as a riding horse. He only knows, go, stop, and turn left! I can pull him around to turn right but if we are in the ring working and he is going clockwise, he will suddenly stop and try to go the other way. Too funny to see his face, what is this madness, he says.
img.fark.net
The little stinker has learned to get in the garage/shop/feed room and knock over the empty feed bins.
img.fark.net
I stacked all kinds of stuff in the doorway to keep him out once I discovered why the feed cans were tipped over. The pile of road apples behind the table saw was a dead giveaway.
img.fark.net
I had one tiny opening because I was going in and out getting tools and equipment to work in the yard. I did not think a horse could get through this. Castle would never even try because he is not comfortable in tight spaces.
img.fark.netThe "who me?" look I got when I surprised him in the garage, he backed up over the air hose, past the chainsaw gas, and out the little opening without knocking stuff over or getting tangled. Castle was waiting for him outside the door.

/I know I need to straighten out the shop but I only have split days off and too much to do on those days
//Thought that no sane horse would even try to get in there.
/// Mountain is very clever and not afraid to get into small spaces.
//// wonder how much trouble he got into when he was at the track, he knows lots of funny little tricks that people have taught him over the years. He will sneak a sip of coffee if he can, he loves peppermints and Guinness stout.

Series of pix of "cute baby animals" on main pg later'n us.  Took too long getting here, link died en route.
Absence since last time caused by 2 recycle runs: plastic mostly H2O bottles to Kuliga Park (SW in Delhi Twp, "Garden Spot of OH" say their community-border signs) & cardboard, paper & aluminium tins (squashed, they & plastic bottles all from HarmonyLodge) to Monfort Hts Elem who get $$ therefrom.
Just realised, this is 1st yr in almost forever that we haven't watched the Derby!  Didna get home from recycle run in time to hear, so don't even know who won. Why did I think there was a Sport location here?
