Just publicize when and where he will be picking up trash along the side of a busy highway.

Yeah, I can understand the good intentions the judge might have had, but that doesn't sound like it would end well.

What are the rules about when people have to disclose their status as a registered sex offender?  That could make post rape counseling particularly awkward

45 days for rape.  Lucky for him he wasn't carrying any drugs or he'd have been in real trouble.

What if he got to be the one in the (thinly) padded suit for their self-defense classes?

Just let the ladies he volunteers with send him home with a few surprises in his pockets. i'll pitch in a few bucks to purchase whatever.

Seriously, this Judge is an idiot.

"Mr. Fox, you are guilty of poaching hens.  I sentence you to 45 days community service in a hen poaching recovery center."

BRILLIANT!

A friend of mine had to do community service as part of a DUI conviction. Luckily there were several options, but the first one they offered her was to serve drinks to cops at a cop function. She declined and did something else instead.

/wtf, people

Except that he won't be picking up trash. The whole damn point of the article is that he'll be doing his community service at a rape crisis center.

IMHO they're lousy tippers, loud drunks and will threaten you if you try to cut them off.

No, he won't. When the probation office called the rape crisis center they said he couldn't perform his community service there, for a few reasons. One being he's a convicted criminal, but more importantly, he'd be in contact with rape survivors.

The judge & probation office are working together to find a more appropriate place for him to perform his community service.

45 days? There must be some mitigating circumstances the FA chose to ignore. Either that or the judge is completely out of her mind.

Jerry Barker, the court coordinator, said that Judge Howard would find another place for Young to serve out his sentence.

How about jail?  How is rape a "community service" offense?  Ignoramus Judge should be removed.

The article doesn't specify, but I'm assuming it was one of the boyfriend/girlfriend statutory rape situations.  You know, where it's fine until he turns 18, then all of a sudden it's illegal because he's a day older than he was yesterday.

Clearly it wasn't legitimate rape, or her body would have shut it down. Because that's how rape works.

That is just farking depressing. I hope that judge gets disbarred or at least reprimanded transferred to a non-criminal court. Not sure how that stuff works in Texass.

Or consensual sex between a freshman and a senior in high school which is statutory rape in certain circumstances.

/reads on... oh it was rape rape (meaning non consensual physical violence involved rape).

Never mind.

In a police interview, Sir Young admitted that he had raped a 14-year-old girl in 2011 at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts when he was 18.

Figured that too given the "leniency" and the age difference.

Nope.

In some cases it has similarities with making sodomy or homosexuality a crime. Two people may be in a completely consensual relationship but the powers that be make it a crime because it upsets the sensibilities of a few vocal pearl clutchers.

We covered this two days ago. It's called a struggle snuggle.

I'm shocked over a few things in this article.  One, they would actually convict somebody of "rape" in TX.  Second, I'm shocked that there are women's rape crisis centers in TX, they must be completely funded privately.  Third, I'm surprised these centers aren't forced to be staffed by anybody but boozed up rapists.

2014-05-01 03:40:03 PM
Did he attack this girl, or was it called rape simply because she was 14? TFA doesn't say. If they just had consensual sex, that's not rape, just another example of the criminalization of teen sexuality. Dude was 18; people who think there's something shocking and terrible about an 18-year-old having sex with a willing 14-year-old don't remember being 14.

Well, that was my only explanation.  Seeing as it's wrong, I guess we're left with the Judge being a horrible human being.
