jaybeezey: Teabaggers don't hate solar, most prepper types are into solar in a big way. Conservatives don't hate solar, conservatives hate spending $500,000,000 on a company that was projected to go out of business but funded by the white house anyway as repayment for political contributions. But you seem to be ok with that.

Fun fact, the Department of Energy, Clean Energy Loan Program (technically called the 1705 program) has given out roughly $16,000,000,000 in loans over the past few years. So far, they've had roughly a 97% success rate with the program, and expect to get back nearly every cent + interest.

It was so successful, they're currently looking to add another $4 billion to the program.

Conservatives love to crow on about Solyndra, A123 and a few of the other flops, but conveniently ignore that well over 95% of the loans are completely successful and are spurring the economy. That's a massive success for any one giving out loans. Enough of a success that in 2013, solar power accounted for 37% of all new capacity in the US, is now growing at an astronomical rate, creating thousands of new jobs (20,000 last year alone) and is expanding domestic manufacturing.

But instead, we hear "herp, derp, solar sucks, winners & losers, coal is king" from the media and ignorant internet commentators.

If you could make an infrared opaque but visibly transparent cell that could be made on polyester film to go between the layers in a composite energy efficient window, you'd have the sort of winner that gets you all the chicks.

Now that's a really awesome idea. Think of all the glass on a skyscraper being used to harness electricity.
