Oh FFS. Yes, the guy was high and stupid but he should be able to get the substance and himself tested if his health is in danger without all this pants pissing, fear mongering overblown hysteria and punishment.
Way to encourage others to seek help when they need it.

I think it was Portugal that decriminalized all drugs and had a surprising result:  More people than ever before sought treatment for addiction.

As I read the article, I was wondering if he was going to get popped. I thought some states have laws that give you immunity if you think you've OD'd. There should be anyway.

Oh, and those "other substances"? Baby laxatives. Get your stuff from reliable sources and you won't be going to the ER and having explosive diarrhea.

It really works the same way if you snort it?  Weirdness.

I've never done coke but I can't imagine it's fun wasting your high on the toilet.

Guy brought some coke in to the hospital? They should have evacuated the entire city block and called out the entire fire and police force. We need to panic more and over react as much as we can.

Why would you be wasting your time on a toilet because of coke?  It makes some people talk to much but that's about it.

Me neither.  I just love how it smells.

Thank goodness the FA had a helpful picture of what a locked-down emergency room might look like. The next need emergency care because of something trivial like a heart attack and see these tell-tale signs, I'll know to just move on to the next not-locked-down ER.

I knew a guy who used to slam coke.  It was not cut with Mannitol.  In fact, it was pretty pure.   1st thing he did after slamming was to go take a dump.

Good cocaine doesn't promote garrulousness.  That's usually an effect of the cut.

Good cocaine, if used properly and not abused, can be beneficial.  Depends a lot on one's metabolism.  For me, it makes me focused, calm, and confident.  Not talkative.

Haven't hit any since just after Katrina.  Don't have any desire.

Beer & Weed man.  Cocaine is too easily addictive.

Prescription drugs have a clear list of ingredients on the label; illegal drugs don't. Funny about that.

there are and there was a new one added the other day, Georgia I think, in reaction to a kid who OD'd with friends.  The friends knew something was wrong but were afraid to call for help since they didn't want to get in trouble.  So now you can report such situations without getting yourself in trouble

Do you know the way to Mordor: Prescription drugs have a clear list of ingredients on the label

Fluticasone Propionate

Sildenafil citrate

Apixaban

Yes.  Very clear, indeed.  If you speak gibberish.

Inositol is a common cut, I would judge more common than mannitol.  It is water soluble, and difficult to remove.

The cocaine -> taking a crap thing comes not from a laxative, but because cocaine is a vasoconstrictor.

MooseBayou: Good cocaine doesn't promote garrulousness.

I'm not so sure about that!

Cocaine may make for a clean high at times, but the stuff is dirty.  Blood on your hands dirty.  It is a terrible thing to use or promote.  And then it's dirty, in the sense of having multiple cuts.

And no, we're not going to test your drugs for you.  Go talk to the nice man in blue, outside.  He's got a whole lab to do that for you.

If cocaine makes you quiet, calm and focused, you just might have ADHD. I read somewhere ADHD people are only 6% of the population but they make up more than half of regular coke users (to focus on work).

isn't that counter-intuitive...which situation would you want?

patient comes in affected by a chemical, but you don't know what it is

vs

patient comes in affected by a chemical, but he has said chemical with him where you can see what the hell was in it?

/affected/effected, probably got it wrong.

We don't have the equipment to do testing on unknown agents. It's not CSI down there (the lab). Hell, there are times we don't know what they took, we just know they're completely messed up!

The possession of it is probably what got him in trouble. If he came in, said he wasn't sure what he just took, they could run tests on him and see if he was okay. I'm thinking he was actually trying to attempt to learn the purity of it, rather than seeking help.
AFAIK most hospitals, emts etc won't call the cops on you if you're on something, they'll help you out and send you home. Bringing it in is asking for trouble.

Just want to chime in that at least where I've worked you can come in as high as Timothy Leary on a space shuttle and the ER will not call the cops; you won't get in trouble with the law unless you're violent. Even then, probably just restraints til you come down/lose consciousness/die.
