Mr. Binion certainly handled that a lot more maturely than I probably would have.

2014-05-01 11:11:54 AM
So the NY Post is repeating an Australian paper's story and quoting Fox 2...so basically it's a blog?

Also somebody used sic incorrectly but I can't tell who.

/Shaq was a tit

2014-05-01 11:21:23 AM
That's pretty farking low.  Shaq needs to apologize to that kid.

2014-05-01 11:51:55 AM
That is despicable.  He should be crucified, or at the very least: fired from his job, banned from the NBA, and fined $2.5 million.

2014-05-01 11:53:25 AM
HEY YOU GUYS, take it easy on him.

2014-05-01 11:53:26 AM

James!: That's pretty farking low.  Shaq needs to apologize to that kid.

He did just that, on the phone, Tuesday. (LGT story on MLive)

FYI, the "kid" is 23 years old.

He apologized on twitter, I guess.

Shaq has always been a bit of an asshole, but people give him a pass because he can be funny. This was not one of those times.

Maybe a personally autographed DVD of Kazaam will suffice?

Shame Us: LibertyHiller: FYI, the "kid" is 23 years old.

so?

Referring to someone in their twenties as "kid" is patronizing at best, usually condescending, and sometimes an outright insult.

At least, it is when I do it.

A 23 year old is a child. You can't even have an intelligent conversation with a person until they're at least 26.

That's retarded.

Reason he won't be fined: rather than say "I'm not sure that was me...I apologize for people who think it was me," he immediately reached out to the person he'd made fun of and apologized to him.

You can be an insensitive ass as long as you learn from it when you get called out on it instead of insisting that everyone else is nuts.

2014-05-01 12:08:49 PM
Oh, and obviously he wouldn't be fined/kicked out of the NBA since he's not employed by the NBA.

2014-05-01 12:09:57 PM
How is this AMUSING?  This deserves a PATHETIC or FAIL tag.

I hope Barkley punches him in the face.

But he should apologize.

Did O'Neal know the guy was disabled, or did he think he was just making a funny face? That kind of matters, and the story didn't say.

I never heard of this disease and would have thought the guy was just making a weird face.

Two days ago, he did just that.

If Shaq wasn't good at basketball he would be the guy getting made fun of for being a monstrous freak.

Well, since he didn't know the guy and it was part of a thing that was done by everyone, not just disabled people, there's no way he should be expected to know. That's the third way in which this differs.

2014-05-01 12:30:40 PM

He picks on disabled fans?

Yet he treats super-powered fans just fine.

FOX 2 reports the post, captioned "Smile today," earned more than 14,000 likes, with former University of Michigan athlete Trey Burke and rapper Waka Flocka Flame joining in on the teasing.

That's my next band name... What do you mean it's taken!?

He probably has been made fun of for it anyway (at least before he was famous).

/now he just gets made fun of, justifiably, for his rap career and movies

He is a minority owner of the Sacramento Kings.

He is? Okay, that's hilarious. They need to keep him in the league just for that.

If this gets him off the broadcast, I am cool with it.  His analysis is terrible and his schtick was played out before he got there.

Please leave him on to mock Dwight Howard until the Rockets are gone from the playoffs, at least.

Then you can get rid of him.

Haha! I knew that was coming.

That's unfortunate.

But as the parent of a disabled kid and someone who had previously "made fun" of people who appeared or acted differently, it's hard for me to get too upset, especially when I know that the vast majority of society has never had intimate personal experience with such situations. I distinctly remember using the word "retarded" in front of a great friend of mine who has a brother with CP. It wasn't until I had my own daughter with CP that I realized the creeps it gives some.

Shaq doesn't seem to have personal experience with stuff like this, despite being in the limelight for several decades now. I don't condone his behavior, just view it as being more ignorant than malicious.

2014-05-01 12:42:03 PM
It was pretty funny though.

2014-05-01 12:42:26 PM
Just finding out Shaq's a dick?

Did you hear about the Berlin Wall?

He was trying to stand up for him early on in the series and Chuck just came out and called him a "good player." It has been 10 years, the guy is never going to be more than what he is now.

It is starting.  LeBron had to deal with this and now KD is getting his.  He was deferring to Reggie Jackson in the 4Q of the last game.  This will be interesting.

2014-05-01 01:01:39 PM
I wonder if the apology sounded something like this?

"Im sorry I got caught making fun of you freak. How does my ass taste putty head?"

2014-05-01 01:02:14 PM
Shaq always parks in the handicap spaces to watch the handicap people make handicap faces.

It's amusing because he's a black man and not a white man. Black people are incapable of maliciousness. Don't you know that by now? Silly you.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I highly doubt Shaq would have done that if he knew the guy was disabled.
