Is randomly inserting bold text the new randomly capitalizing words for conservatives now?

2014-05-01 10:02:32 AM
If you want conservatives in one of the late night spots find a funny one and put them up for the job.

2014-05-01 10:10:08 AM
Because Letterman is a staunch conservative who never made fun of Republicans.

It was a carefully worded statement by a man experienced in public relations. He didn't call Colbert moderate. He called Colbert "more moderate than people think he is."

If right wingers didn't act like petulant children, it would be far harder to mock them.  But shooting the messenger is so much easier.

Why does CBS refuse to hire the people right-wing bloggers want them to hire for open late night talk show positions?

Whatever happened to free speech?

Free speech may be delivered in the form of cash, checks, or money orders

Colbert is quite religious so clearly he cannot be a true liberal.

Dear conservatives,

Why are you such whiny pussies?

Why can't he be a "true liberal" just because he's a devout Catholic? Lots of good Catholic folks are liberal.

i'm sorry - when did a for-profit entertainment show have to be "fair and balanced" (conservative)?

hey, assholes - produce somebody as funny and entertaining as colbert, and maybe you'll get your own show, mmkay? until that time, shut the fark up.

I don't think people should let their faith dictate their politics or vice versa. Influence, consider, sure, but I think it's best to try to keep those apart.

Because true Christians understand that when you help people, your are disincentivizing them from working and taking away the dignity of poverty from them, also bootstraps.

I'm not saying he can't be, I was agreeing with what I assumed was the facetious remark by the OP, that rather people will discount his liberal cred because he is a knuckledragging fairytale fan.

Many religious liberals are absolutely clueless when it comes on which groups they should hate versus just feel superior to.  Religious Conservatives get it.

Oh, I see. Just wait, someone will fulfill your prediction shortly, I am afraid.

Is anyone truly liberal or conservative when they are talking with Katherine Heigl about how difficult it was for her making her latest film?

FTA, Rush Limbaugh:   No longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values. Now, it's just wide out in the open.

There's no assault on traditional American values.  People just want you to stop shoving your values onto everyone else.

Well, he is Catholic. But I'm sure a lot of bishops were saying the same about Francis.

If the staunchest proponents of a particular political philosophy are easy to mock because they seem unreasonable to the majority of people, perhaps it's time to examine the specifics of that political philosophy.

Les Moonves, chairman and chief executive officer of the CBS Corporation, responded to criticism that the network was replacing David Letterman, a liberal comedian and longtime host of the weeknight Late Show program, with Stephen Colbert, another liberal comic and host of The Colbert Report, who is likely to continue making fun of conservatives and Republicans when he leaves his Comedy Channel program to replace Letterman sometime in 2015.

Two things:

I thought the Republican Party was the raw meat-eating, bare chested "Manly" Party. Grow a set and quit crying because the mean man is making fun of you.

If you didn't give him so many goddamn things to make fun of you over, he might stop.

JerseyTim

Moonves grew up in the era when the major networks wanted to appear unbiased and nonpartisan. See "Fairness Doctrine" and "Equal Time."

Trying to appear middle of the road is still better from a business perspective. Fox wants to be considered "fair and balanced." CBS does not want to be considered "your source for right-bashing."

2014-05-01 10:58:34 AM
Maybe if conservatives were funny, they'd have the gig. Just saying.

2014-05-01 10:58:41 AM
Because Letterman was always known to walk straight down the center of the aisle

What CBS wants is the younger demographic that is Colbert's biggest audience.

The correct response is not to deny the obvious, the correct response is to say, "Deal with it."

FTA: "If you're referring to remarks by Rush Limbaugh that we've attacked the heartland of America..."

Those poor poor heartlanders. What will we do if the bumpkins get upset or... or.. 'gasp'... offended?

This is what Thomas Frank calls the plenty-plaint (sp?).

2014-05-01 11:02:52 AM
But every Conservative I know says that Letterman is a full-on screaming prancing Lib-U-Lardo whose program is an hour-long hatefest against all that is Good and Honorable and Decent.

2014-05-01 11:03:24 AM
FTFA- It's the media planting a flag here ... they've hired a partisan, so-called comedian to run a comedy show.

Yeah, CBS shoulda hired a REAL comedian, not one of them "so-called" comedians!

Doctor Funkenstein: Is randomly inserting bold text the new randomly capitalizing words for conservatives now?

It's something The Sun in the UK has done for years - use a reading age of 8 and then bold the more important words so your slower readers can still get the gist. It's worked well for them, they're the worlds most widely read English language newspaper, so I can see why others would want to do the same.

Jesus farking Christ, he actually said that??!? What an ignorant putz. Assaulting traditional values is kind of the whole point of comedy.

Caffeine Induced Diarrhea: Those poor poor heartlanders. What will we do if the bumpkins get upset or... or.. 'gasp'... offended?

If comedy has to start worrying about offending people, then comedy is dead.

But, as Ricky Gervais would say...  if they are offended, why should we give a f****?
