I can't wait.

Oh, and if you scroll down a bit, you get to see the Asian trailer, which shows a Rodan-like flying monster.

I'm sure this new one is going to be great.

In the inevitable sequel(s) please have him fight a new version of Gigan.

No.

Come up with something new.  Or perhaps a cross-over with another franchise.

You know, a Godzilla/Die Hard crossover might just work.

They also have an awesome article about Godzilla, including the fact that George Takei's first job in the industry was in a Godzilla moviehttp://www.vilereviews.com/Godzilla_Facts.html

6 Godzilla movies just went up on Netflix today if you don't want to wait :

'Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster' (1964) - Starring Yosuke Natsuki, Yuriko Hoshi, Hiroshi Koizumi. After a meteorite unleashes a three-headed beast upon Tokyo, Mothra tries to unite with Godzilla and Rodan to battle the extraterrestrial threat.

'Godzilla Raids Again' (1955) - Starring Hiroshi Koizumi, Setsuko Wakayama, and Minoru Chiaki. Godzilla battles an irradiated Ankylosaur and destroys Osaka in the process.

'Godzilla vs. Mothra' (1964) - Starring Akira Takarada, Yuriko Hoshi, and Hiroshi Koizumi. A greedy developer unwittingly hatches a gigantic baby moth upon Tokyo, while Godzilla strikes once again.

'Godzilla, King of the Monsters' (1956) - Starring Raymond Burr, Takashi Shimura, and Momoko Kochi. A 400-foot dinosaur-like beast, awoken from undersea hibernation off the Japanese coast by atomic-bomb testing, attacks Tokyo.

'Godzilla's Revenge' (1969) - Starring Kenji Sahara, Machiko Naka, and Tomonori Yazaki. A bullied schoolboy dreams of traveling to Monster Island, where he befriends Godzilla's son, who is also having bully troubles.

'Rodan' (1956) - Starring Kenji Sahara, Yumi Shirakawa, and Akihiko Hirata. Mutant pterosaurs and prehistoric insects terrorize humanity.

Oh sorry, missed one:

'Terror of Mechagodzilla' (1975) - Starring Katsuhiko Sasaki, Tomoko Ai, and Akihiko Hirata. Godzilla comes to the rescue when an alien race rebuilds Mechagodzilla to destroy Earth's cities. A traitorous scientist gives them a second weapon: Titanosaurus.

Jeez. You guys above been asleep for the last few weeks?

From all the info I have gathered about this new GODZILLA film is that it is to totally make up for the 1998 abomination.

My understanding is the director/writers put forth tremendous effort to preserve many of the original elements that made early zilla films great but with a new angle. ("....the nuclear tests in the 50s weren't 'tests', they were trying to kill it")
A kinda "conspiracy theory" element will be present to this new zilla film. I suppose a 9/11-truther analogy or something.

GODZILLA will be a metaphor for the force of nature and will take an anti-hero role in this film as he battles other giant monsters.

Can't hardly wait.

Will they have GAMERA?

Because he is FRIEND TO ALL CHILDREN.

The 90s series is rarely seen in this country.   It's worth it.   Mecha-King-Ghidora is awesome.   The remnants being the inspiration for Mecha-Godzilla in the next film is awesome.   Rodan and baby Godzilla sharing a nest and being brotherly to each other while adult Godzilla disaproves--is awesome.   Godzilla turning red glowy (instead of blue glowy) is epic.

I'm worried that the new film will not have a nuclear breath weapon for big-G.

I put it to you that the 1998 film is superior in every way to the majority of Japanese made films.

Not *ALL*, mind you, but the majority of them.  Basically, any Godzilla film from, say, 1965 to 1999.

I would love to troll the audience with an opening establishing shot of Godzookey bumbling through the sky.

I'm surprised the greenies haven't clamored for a showing of Godzilla vs The Smog Monster.  Nuclear energy can defeat pollution!

See, that crappy-ness is why we loved godzilla movies in the first place! They where so delightfully cheesy and kooky.

The 1998 film wasn't BAD it just wasn't a Godzilla film.

That. It wasn't bad as kinda cheesy monster movies go, but it was a terrible Godzilla movie. Change the name, and it would be all but forgotten now.

I can go with "It's a good giant monster movie, but it's not Godzilla". I think the problem was that most Godzilla fans were upset at the redesign, and the ones who weren't Godzilla fans avoided it because of associations with the really cheesy late 60s early 70s films. So really, the film was left without a constituency.
