Clemkadidlefark: NHL is as dumb as the NBA

I only have respect for the WWE and the WWF. At least there I know they know that I know they're faking

Oh, you're one of those, I know, that they know, that I know, that they know......." type of guys.  You seldom see people like you out this early.  I've tend to meet them around 1:45am, in a bar, during some kind of stupid discussion.

mjones73: Wettner: mjones73: Wettner: mjones73: Mike Richards now has been part of two 0-3 comebacks...

Jeff Carter too.

I can't remember if he played in that series, I know he was hurt during the playoffs that year.

I think you may be correct. He had a foot injury so he may not have played, but we can all assume that he nailed as many women as he could on one foot during that series.

Rough night last night for the Flyers. Carcillo gets a goal against them for the Rangers, Carter/Richards move on, and Bryz gets the Game 7 win with one save to help the Wild play on.

Yeah don't remind me.

It was a tough game. Flyers weren't playing like a hockey team until the 3rd period, then it was apparent that it was too little too late. Mason can't do everything. Great game to watch though.

One of my coworkers is from New England and a devoted Bruins and Dead Sox fan.  I'm a Yankees fan (I follow more than one hockey team although I lean towards the Pens).  He gave me so much shiat in 2004 that when the Bruins epically failed in 2010 I tormented him for a solid week, capped off by hanging his Zdeno Chara action figure in his cubicle with a Flyers shoelace noose.  Now we limit it to taunts.

FriarReb98: Let's be honest.  With the history they have, it was only a matter of time before the Sharks joined this club.

I'm an Oilers fan and I feel bad for them.

the sharks have a very loyal and incredibly forgiving fanbase.  it's going to be a long offseason and hopefully amnesia will set in yet again.  after seeing this year after year after year it's really hard to keep rooting for this team.

yeah this year we blew the big 1 game to zero lead in the series

/We need better defense

Nope.  The Sharks get to the playoffs.

2014-05-01 12:22:03 PM

SigmaAlgebra: I don't follow the Kings (last night was the first game I've watched them play this year), so can someone fill me in on how Mike Richards went from Flyers' captain to a fourth line center in like three years?

He was great in 2012 during the first year with the Kings and he was the 2nd line center (Kopitar is first line C). Since then his offensive game has suffered but he plays with so much energy and will to win that even on 3rd and 4th line this year he makes an impact with his PK and defense.

His offense might not be worth the salary cap right now, but for Kings fans he's worth it. He helped bring the cup to the franchise for the first time and he's great in the lockerroom.

The past failures by the Sharks have been amusing. This is now embarrassing even for non-fans of them.

Yep - you're 100% right.

I have a personal (family) connection to the team which is why I'm a Sharks fan.  But I think the wrecking ball is going to go through the team in the off-season, just like it did 3 or 4 years ago when they got eliminated early.

I'm not even sure McClellan's job is safe at this point.  He's got a great regular season history but his playoff history is not great.  It seems like every other team in the league steps it up for the playoffs and the past few years the Sharks just haven't.

Hockey is my sport, Sharks my team (Cubs fans will understand). I still picked the Kings in five. I expected the Sharks to fail, but not an epic fail like this. Yes, it's blow up time. Top priorities: new coaching/goaltending.

Flyers did the same thing against the Devils.  Forget the year, but Lindros had been out for awhile, and the Flyers were up 3-0.  Lindros tells Clarke that he wants to play, and farking arsehole Clarke lets him.

And the Flyers proceed to lose 4 straight.

Regardless that Clarke is a "god" to Flyers fans, I never forgave him for that  Boneheaded move as a GM.

the big guns dont show up for the playoffs.

i hate to be that guy, but... its in the math. look at, by contrast, Quick's numbers. He choked first two games, and buckled down and found that murderous intensity that he seems to have to just literally will himself to win.

Contrast with Thornton and Marleau who are incredibly talented skilled players... yet seem to go to pieces once the pressure builds.

Its been proven that SJ's line up cant get it done in the offseason; they need to deal those guys and get new leadership. keep hertl pavelski and the other solid 2nd/3rd line guys who'll contribute and keep the team afloat during the regular season... but SJ needs to deal its figureheads. THey cant deliver, and should be held accountable. SJ *should* win this, and indeed should've each of the last 5 years or so.

I've been a Bay Area resident most of my life, but never got into hockey on anything more than a casual level.  So the Sharks playoff failures never fazed me.

3 months ago I took a 12-month job in Santa Clara, and got a place in San Jose.  San Jose residents LOVE their Sharks, like a mother loves their children. They like the Niners and Raiders and Giants and A's and Warriors, but the Sharks belong to them.  They LOVE them. So I recently got into them a little bit more (in the past i almost never watched regular season hockey), and in the little neighborhood I'm in, sharks goals, even in the regular season, would be greeted with whoops and hollers and even the occasional firework being set off.

Games 1 and 2, when the sharks won each game 35-0, it was like 4th of July.  Fireworks, celebrations, high fives in the street.  Did I mention that these fans LOVE their sharks?  It was really cool to see, just to be a part of all this positive energy.

Today is an absolute funeral in the south bay.  The team probably gets blown up, the coach probably gets fired.  Lots of people aren't even in to work yet, my guess is that they found a bottle to drown their sorrows in.

I feel really bad for them.  They are good people and deserve better.

Games 4, 5, and 6 were complete crap.  They should have put it away well before game 7.

It was reftastic.

Love that elbowing call on Couture to give the kings their 5 on 3.
Or the Sharks goal that only crossed the line by an inch, so hey - why not give Quick  a save?

I realized the refs tried to make up for blowing those calls with numerous phantom calls against the kings later in the game - but the sharks power play sucks. I would have much rather they just called the game right in the first place.

Lack of drive, plain and simple.  There are players like that in every sport, but it's rare to see two guys that talented on the same team.  Actually when you think about it a few years back they had three with Danny Heatley.

The cowboys only finish near the top of their division because the NFC East is crap and 10 wins usually takes the division, and sometimes 9 will do it.

The Sharks are a level of choke the cowboys can't even begin to fathom.

Why Would I Read the Article: 3 months ago I took a 12-month job in Santa Clara, and got a place in San Jose.

I lived in Santa Clara when the Sharks first came to San Jose. I had never been to a hockey game, let alone cared at all about the sport. My closest friends were Buffalo transplants, and took me to the very first game they had (at the Cow Palace back then).

I was instantly hooked. Season tickets for years, I was there for Owen Nolan's All-Star game hat trick, happily hated Theo Fleury, etc. It really was "our" team, living 7 minutes from the arena.

I grew up an A's fan and still hold them close, but no other professional sports team holds a place in my heart like the Sharks. Last night was just a complete ass-kicker when you tie it to year after year of being a top team bounced early in the playoffs.

I feel the pain, even 1300 miles away...
