DNRTFA, but I haven't lost a pair of sunglasses in about 25 years.

What cured me was buying better sunglasses that I actually cared about enough to keep track of.  Of course it's a huge monopoly now.  Luxottica owns about 90% of the global market and I have no doubt that they are in discussions to acquire the remaining 10%.

So fark them - I don't want to support a monopoly anymore and pay $150 for a pair of sunglasses that probably has about $1.50 worth of material i it.

I don't lose sunglasses.  They just break, usually for no apparent reason.  Why is there a crack in the lens?  I have no idea.  I didn't drop them.  Fark.

---

And a word of advice to you morans who lose your car keys.  There should only be 3 places your car keys ever are.  In your ignition, in your pocket or in a place in your home where you always put them.

House keys are easier.  They're either in your pocket or in your home right next to you car keys.

You should probably put your wallet and sunglasses in the same place - all the shiat that you have to take with you when you leave, but don't typically use at home.

Wait, people actually spend $350 on sunglasses?

I wasn't happy about the last pair I bought, $25 is too much.  But they are decent sunglasses, and certified as safety glasses too.

I was ok with the ones before that, they were $10.

When I get to work my $10 sunglasses get dropped in my toolbag. When they get too scratched I get a new pair.

That's how I keep up with the new styles, because I need new ones every three weeks.

Sunglasses are one of the only items I do go expensive on.  They're my eyes, and I kind of like them, plus I'm outside a ton, and it's always sunny and hot here.  But I also had my last pair for a decade.

The thing is in the past few years even cheap sunglasses offer the full range of protection that you could only get in expensive ones before.  You'd probably never get 10 years out of a cheap pair though.  I go expensive with my sunglasses precisely because I will lose the cheap ones. The amount of care I take to not lose my stuff is directly related to the worth of the item.

I routinely sell $350 plano sunglasses. Hell, I often sell $1300 ones (those are Rx, to be sure, but $1300 nonetheless). The Venn Diagram of iPhone users and people with more money than you has some, but overall very little, overlap.

I agree. Decent sunglasses shield the eyes from radiation. The ones from 7/11 just block light. Also
I like real glass as it doesn't scratch like poly.
The tags are a great idea. But the tile blue tooth devices have to be replaced at 20 bucks a year.

I used to work as a cleaner at a college, and a coworker gave me a pair of sunglasses she had found in a hallway when I asked if anybody had a pair of sunglasses I could wear home. (Walking home towards sunrise without sunglasses is such a pain in the ass...)

Ended up being a $200+ pair of Oakleys.

Turns out, high end sunglasses really are better. The polarization is actually effective, the tint isn't overly dark or light, they fit well on my face (even though I've now lost one of the nose nubs), they are the best pair of sunglasses I've ever owned by far.

I wouldn't say people are wasting money or "throwing too much around" buying an expensive pair of sunglasses. If you don't lose stuff often, and put in the effort to track down things you do lose, expensive sunglasses will serve you well. You'll save money buying them, if you never have to buy another pair again.

2014-05-01 10:04:27 AM
Forever I only bought $10 glasses, but I'd lose them all the time. Then I finally risked buying an "expensive" pair ($100 or so). 10 years later and I still have them.

2014-05-01 10:09:43 AM
I hate contacts, which means my sunglasses are prescription. You pay plenty if attention to where they are when the world is all blurry without them.

I'll see your 14 year old RayBan Daddios and raise you a 16 year old polarized Anarchy Amp. They were $50 then, and worth every penny. I still wear them all the time.
