Every rich person in America, and many overseas, are going to be investigating buying the Clippers. There is going to be one hell of a bidding war

May I suggest a new name and location for the team?  The Kosciusko Bottom Rails.

Not gonna happen. Those taxpayers need to get bent over something when arena deals get negotiated, and the Space Needle leaves a nice little mark on their foreheads.

First of all, if a sale is forced, forget the team moving out of L.A.  Now that they're getting good, and are in fact better (at the moment) than the Lakers, there is no reason to move them.

Second, inasmuch as the Milwaukee Bucks - a crap franchise in a crap TV market - just sold of $550 MILLION, it doesn't sound unreasonable to expect the Clippers, in a top-notch arena and in a HUGE TV market, to fetch a minimum of $900 million, and quite possible into the $1 billion range.

And that piece of crap Sterling bought the team in 1981 for $12.5 million, meaning he stands to make like a thousand percent on the investment.

The NBA has come a long way.  A couple decades ago 'a bidding war for the Clippers' would have been a punchline.

Wadded Beef: The NBA has come a long way.  A couple decades ago 'a bidding war for the Clippers' would have been a punchline.

It is probably number 2 world wide for popularity in sports and has the largest TV market world wide. If you are able to get your hands on an NBA team you will be sitting pretty for a while. Stern did his job as commissioner, when he took over for the most part owning an NBA team was like throwing money in a hole. By the 90's he had turned the league around so much that every team should have been breaking even, and now owning a team is a license to print money.

In a world where the Clippers have more star power in their courtside seats than the Lakers...Justin Bieber should go in halvsies with Oprah on this bid.

Well so far I've read articles that claim Oprah, Magic, Rick Ross, Puff Daddy and Dr.Dre want to buy the team.

/What no white guy wants to buy them?

Trying to use your race for an advantage, most certainly is. If she winds up being the highest bidder, I have no problem at all with her being an owner, but, do it on merit. IMO, Magic would be much better suited to be an owner.

Why did she play the race card? Its not about white people being oppressed. Its about her trying to use her race to gain an advantage over other ownership groups (some of whom also have minority members). How about 'be the highest bidder' regardless of what color you are.

Any American worth $2.9 billion is important.

And that's before you realize that Oprah could, if she so desired, get every suburban housewife in flyover country to tune into a basketball game at least once, just by telling them to do so.

So basically saying she wants to be a role model to other black people is playing the race card? And wouldn't it be stupid for her to play the race card when every group that has a realistic shot at buying the team has a black person in the group? Like i said dude, stop digging, you are only making yourself look like an idiot.

Or get every suburban housewife in the L.A Metro area to take their family to at least one home game a year. They would never have to worry about filling the stadium for Clippers games again.

That you don't see it seems telling to me too. Again, I could care less if she is the highest bidder, but, why throw the race card in? Magic isn't doing that, and he just as easily could. Its to try and gain an advantage, pure and simple.

Its not about her trying to be a role model. She easily already is one. And yes, I think its stupid to play that card when there are other black people with legitimate chances of outbidding her, but, that doesn't mean she isn't throwing it out there.

To you anything time a black person opens their mouth it is racism or them playing the race card. You will be more successful and much more happy in life if you stop trying to prove everything a black person does or says is proof that they are oppressing you.

No, I absolutely don't see black people as always playing the race card. In this instance, I do. I'm sufficently successful and happy in life, and show me where I said anything about being oppressed.
