The gulf state called for all criticism of religion and of prophet Mohammed to be made illegal in Norway.

Hmmm...I think that's nonsense, but OK.  I don't know enough about Norway's speech laws to say.

It also expressed concern at "increasing cases of domestic violence, rape crimes and inequality in riches" and noted a continuation of hate crimes against Muslims in the country.

Oh go fark yourselves.  Immediately and harshly.

not doing enough to counter criticism of the prophet Mohammed

Perhaps they could adopt a legal code that would allow citizens to be flogged for blasphemy.  Because nothing advances human rights quite like the repression of free speech.

2014-04-30 01:26:37 PM
And exactly what would it do in making those things illegal if their just continue hate crimes anyway?

I don't doubt that "increasing cases of domestic violence, rape crimes and inequality in riches"would be concerning to Saudi Arabia, as they attempt to remain a world leader.

Then maybe they should focus more on not being the world's most irresponsible country and less on criticizing others for sins they commit themselves - at least with regard to the items they mentioned there.

Tu quoque is the end all be all argument when it comes to human rights in international diplomacy.

Accuse China of suppressing dissent?  "Well you've got the highest percentage of your population in prison"
Accuse UAE of using wage-slaves?  "Well you had chattel slavery a hundred years ago, and some human trafficking today"

You can't actually make progress.

Oh they're talking about protecting their religion from mockery...

Interesting priorities but, whatever floats your boat.

It's religious oppression in roughly the same way allowing same-sex marriage is religious oppression in the USA.  It makes sense if you define "religious oppression" as "not enforcing MY religion on everybody else."

That's part of the bit from the trailer. It was supposed to be blurred out.

If it were slower it's supposed to look like he's working a jack in the box and he's surprised at what it did. The aliens blurred it because it's an obscene gesture.

Hey Saudi Arabia

Mohammed was a child molester and an @sshole. Islam is made up bullshiat (like all religions). Tough titties if that is blasphemous. Grow the fark up and leave the 12th century, you primitive sand dwellers.

Wow, that's pretty hilarious right there. If they had any sense in their heads the last thing they'd open their mouths about to criticize anyone else about (let alone Norway) is human rights. And their idea of human rights violation is essentially, not legally enforcing Islam. Pretty much exactly the same complaints our Tea Party/evangelical cristians have in America - "You're violating my religious freedom by allowing me to practice my religion... while NOT forcing other people to follow my religion too".

Man, religious beliefs make a lot of people cray cray.

Seriously, we've got a lot of derp here in America, that's why the Teabangelicals can say with a straight face that allowing gays to have the same rights as everyone else some-magically-how infringes on their own rights. It's flatly insane, and thus, derp.

I do love the first amendment - freedom of religion, freedom from religion, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and freedom of the press all rolled up in one spot.

Oh, you mean this guy? "Lockett, a 38-year-old four-time felon, shot a 19-year-old woman, Stephanie Neiman, with a shotgun and watched as two accomplices buried her alive during a burglary gone wrong in 1999."

Good. I hope he farking suffered horribly.

That's a lot different than killing someone who disparagingly refers to Muhammad was a child rapist. I mean, unless you think a 6-year old is fair game. Otherwise, he was indeed a child rapist.

How, exactly, is anything that mongbiohazard said derp?  Where, precisely, is the logical flaw?  Or has the word "derp" come to simply mean "an opinion I disagree with", as has happened with so many words?

I've seen part of some episodes of Vikings and I know how much they robbed and oppressed Irish monks in Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales as well as some other places.

But then, I have a lot more Vikings in my family tree than Irish monks for some reason, so I have to forgive and forget.

Seriously, they didn't spend all their time raping, killing and oppressing Irish monks. Judging from their nicknames they did a lot of other useful things too like chop trees, clear land, cut wood, and invade Iraq. No, wait, that last one was George Bush. But then I did nickname him "the Wood Chopper" to distinguish him from Abraham LIncoln, the Rail-splitter, so it's easy to see where the confusion comes from.
