Addicting? WTF is addicting?

Meh.

Um, that guy has a punch-able voice.

...and face.

We'll use it when the Russians/Chinese invade.

I think I just learned that every linkin park song is sun harmonic minor.

The human voice is a horrible way to demonstrate this, because you're just too caught up in the performance. It's easy to find major/minor instrumental versions of songs that show this off a lot better.

Those.

I feel like I am watching a movie where umericuh is losing a war BADLY and this is the montage of that happening.

It sounds so odd in a minor key--but I like it that way. Kind of wistful.

Do you have any you like in particular? I'd be interested in hearing them. I think there are some singers who could do a really nice job with this. This guy has a nice voice but it was a tad cheesy for my taste.

with images of the flag in the mud ... federal buildings surrounded by barbed fences ... soldiers marching down main street in groups ... gas pumps being torn out ... the Kroger gutted by fire ... you know ... 18 months from now.

Try "Losing my Religion", "Creep" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by the same YouTuber, who apparently has a jones for this sort of thing. Some work, others not at all.

Miserably cold rainy weather outside. The music fits perfectly.

Scrape the vocal and overdub the new Godzilla trailer.

Nothing in particular. Just Youtube search your favorite classical piece with "minor key". Below is not a perfect comparison because the top is an orchestral rendition and the bottom is a guy on his Mac, but it gives you the flavor.

Pachelbel's Canon in D major (normal)

Pachelbel's Cannon in D minor

Listen to "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" by band TRAFFIC.

Verse is in D-minor but chorus sharpens to D-major. Makes song sound cool and "ironic" or something. neat.

"The Thrill of it All" by BLACK SABBATH does a minor to major thing which has a very uplifting mood effect.

Or another well-known piece taken from a minor key into a major key.

Beethoven's 5th in C minor (normal)

Beethoven's 5th in C major

That was cool. I've always loved that piece and I wasn't sure about it in minor but yup, it's great. I decided when I was around 8 that D minor was my favorite key after I heard Mahler's Titans. First record I ever bought too.

The idea is cool but he makes it dumb. He overplays it too much and I'm pretty sure he's not on key for parts of it. I quit when it got to the split screen and had to see three of his faces.

Fark all of y'all, I dug it. Remember, when you are whining about autotune while extolling electric guitar music, the electric guitar and distortion(any processing at all) are every bit the crutch that autotune is.

Trolling? Ignorant?

You got me. Autotune is a lie. Guitarists used to tear and damage their speakers to get distortion. And distortion doesn't hide behind anything. It does the opposite. That's usually the point.

Of course distortion doesn't hide behind anything. It's what people hide behind. Every new thing can be used well, or for wankery. That was my point. There are people using autotune to great effect. I love playing guitar with effects, but I know I hide behind it. I'm just aware there is always a purist that is more pure than the last one.

It's 'ballad', not 'baled'. I don't want to have to infer what you're trying to say, I want you to know how to spell. ;)

I hate the fact that every goddamn person who thinks they can sing things they have to vibrato the hell out of every damned note.  I get it,  you can't sustain a clear continuous note, and you have to warble outrageously the whole time.

I thought the song was fine, but damn, I don't need his bedroom eyes after after note.

Citation needed.

From what I've read, the song is a poem set to the tune taken from the official song of a gentlemen's club in London (a real gentlemen's club, not what we've started referring to as a "gentlemen's club").

As someone who knows virtually nothing about music other than as a consumer (and an ill-informed one at that), this thread and some of the links in it have been extremely interesting.  It's fascinating how the change in key changes the feel and mood of the piece, even if the melody is the same.  (Or, is it incorrect to say that the melody is the same if the key is changed?)

The relationships between the notes are altered to make it minor (not "harmonic minor" like subby claims - there's more than one type), but yeah close 'nuff that I get what you're saying.
