At least the beards appear to be real, just styled wacky.  Grow the nails and do weird stuff, otherwise, it just looks like someone glued toys to their hands.

As long as she can still give a good back-scratch and hand-jibber I couldn't care less what she does with her nails.

10 to 1 odds, you are also a fat-biatch who would be better served jogging around the mall instead of sitting in a nail salon.

Most of those look like a crappy craft store miniature aisle got randomly hot glued to fingernails instead of some more suitable base like popsicle sticks.

Long fingernails and toenails weird me out. They don't even have to be super long. Even relatively short "press on" size nails are gross to me.

Ew.
We used to have a lady come into the liquor store where I worked that had nails goin' all crazy like that, except it looked like she re-glued broken pieces on to them.
We think she added her cut toenails to her fingers, too.

This was normal in the mid-late 80s.  I am semi-ashamed to admit I had fully inch long acrylic nails, airbrushed with bizarre colors and patterns, with teeny holes drilled through the ends on which I could hang charms.

Of course I also had razor cut vibrant plum colored hair with platinum spikes.

Why yes, I was in my late 20's, well employed and single, why do you ask?

For the record, nails are now normal length, natural and polished only with clear.

Fake nails make your real nails nasty. That said, if they had ones that looked cool enough, I'd give them a go, then rip em off at the end of the day. Germs.

Well, not if they are done properly, they don't.  Unless you're talking lee press on nails, then yes, they all suck.

A well applied acrylic nail does not harm the natural nail.   They are also not found in the vast majority of nail salons.

Met a woman with long-to-curly-cue nails - something between goth and punk - and clearly near 50 y/o

A drunken gathering later on led to her explaining how she dealt with post-potty paperwork as her hubby slowly turned red and admitted yes, he did it for her. She beamed, he left the room.

Those nails always remind me of the finger-guards and bound feet of oriental dynastic standards or "Look at me! My functions are compromised on purpose!"

Overly long fingernails are just plain disgusting. At best. Crap attached to them, there are no words.
Best served with sharpie eyebrows and bad ink.

LOL.  I'd have to go home, dig out pics of me from that era, scan them, upload them, then post them.

I think the pics may be in the attic....or garage.

I'll think about it.  :)  It's still 3 hours till I get off work, so we've got a 50/50 shot I'll feel like it when I get home.

Long fingernails gross me out. So do ones with the white tipped ends. Why the fark do women do that?

I don't understand the appeal. Except maybe for people with really weak nails because I've heard they can help reinforce them. My mom had me look at hers recently. Didn't really believe her when she said how soft they were, but damn. Then again I don't think I've ever seen a single person with well done fake nails. They always look like weird plastic white turtle shells/shovels glued to their fingers. Especially the ones that flare out so that the square tips are way wider than where the nail starts.

I also don't understand all these weird shapes. Nails that aren't shaped like the tips of your fingers just look weird. The square ones and daggers especially. Short and rounded looks better, lasts better, and is more useful for just about everything.

deanis: Long fingernails gross me out. So do ones with the white tipped ends. Why the fark do women do that?

Because other women tell them to, I think. Some French manicures are pretty, but I've only seen tacky ones in person. The ones where the white tips go halfway down their fingers creep me out. And French manicures on toes.

What's in TFA, no I don't get the appeal, ever, outside of trade shows or such.  Like clothing, the weirder the better for some professions.

They aren't 'good' for weak nails, not actual acrylics anyway, since they prevent the nail from exposure to air and it will be 'soft' ish.  There are wraps that are better for nail reinforcements.

I had my acrylic nails purely for a "fashion" statement as it was then.  I also bit my nails (I know, I KNOW..GROSS!) so it was an easy way to not deal with that.  I didn't have a weird shape, but definitely long and painted as weird as I felt like.  But I did have quality nails done that didn't hurt my natural nails, so when I had them removed, a good coat of nail sealer for a couple days and they were good as new.

I don't bite my nails anymore either.  :)

Short nails with a pale coat of polish. Anything longer or with more polish and it hides all the dirt and crust under the nail. Ick.

And then there's toenails....

The Tony Bennett Show on SNL

"I gotta mention our sponsors - Lamicil tablets for nail fungus. You know - nail fungus is no parade down Main Street. I once dated a lady who was 99% gorgeous, then I took her shoe-shopping. Her toenails looked like a lined-up row of BARBEQUED FRITOS!! There isn't a pair of clippers out there that can tame those poker chips! Lamicil says, "Hey, nail fungus: don't let the door hit ya' where the Good Lord split ya'!"

Never saw the point of people who get regular manicures / pedicures done.  $20-$50 for something that will either chip off in a week or damage your nail bed?  Any many times a year?  No thanks.

I do my toenails about 3x during summer, myself.  It actually lasts quite a while.  Fingernails are so subject to the elements that there's hardly any point in even starting, never mind keeping it up (even if you do it yourself.)

Women - if you're poor, maybe this is one of the reasons why.
