She's a bit rough looking in some paparatzi shots, but I've had no complaints about how she looks onscreen.  I even like her voice in the Shrek movies.

She was beyond gorgeous 20 years ago. She has that perfect Caucasian/Mexican mix that makes her so appealing.

Knew someone who was half-Mexican half-German descended Jew. She was beyond beautiful. There wasn't any woman on this earth who looked anywhere as good as she.

I thought that was the best she looked. After she lost that weight her face never looked quite as good. Plus about 80% of it seemed to come off her boobs.

The booze really hasn't been all that good to her and you can really see it in her face sometimes. (If you're curious, she's been frequently photographed stumbling around drunk and once drank so much she got alcohol poisoning.)  I'm still amazed at how her body can look amazing on camera, but then you see her in some pictures and she just looks like she hasn't been eating for a few months.  She's still hot and I know she can't be forever 21, but sometimes she just looks like an old leather suitcase.

But she's apparently straightened her life out and doesn't get that drunk anymore, so good for her.

tokyogirl79: She's still hot and I know she can't be forever 21

She's on the very tail end of her shelf life as a boner factory though, and somebody needs to tell her.  She's stretched out her career by taking on more cougar-ish roles but it feels both desperate and unnecessary.  While her versatility is limited (Vera Farmiga she is not), I think she has a charisma that she could use to age more gracefully and take on more mature, if still chippy, roles.  But no, here she is, still taking roles where her relevance hinges on being sexy.  Good or bad, one thing that was immediately apparent in The Other Woman -- just the previews, mind you -- is that any premise where a guy would fark Cameron Diaz when he also has the opportunity to fark Kate Upton makes no sense whatsoever.

She's never going to be any sort of all-time great actress, but I feel like her ceiling is higher than she herself realizes and I hate to see wasted potential in anyone.

If he's in a delicate dance to deceive all of them?  Maybe it's because I'm just not the cheating type, but that strikes me as way more trouble than it's worth.  Makes more sense if Diaz was playing a cougar who knows she's the mistress and just doesn't care, but there goes the movie premise.

It's not a question of limitations; McDonald's "meat" may taste fine to you, but would you still reach for it when steak's on the menu for the same price?

She hasn't really had much success with dramatic roles, which is probably why she's focusing more on comedic/sexy ones this year. Personally, I think that has to do with the parts she's getting rather than her skills as an actress; for instance, when Tom Hanks started his move from comedy to srs stuff he took slightly comedic parts first then slowly moved into more and more dramatic parts, but always ones he could still bring some charm and humor to. I don't know if it's just that she's bad at picking roles or that there just aren't good roles like that for a woman with her looks or her age in Hollywood, but I do think she could do well following the same path. I know that early in her career her parts were far more often "manic pixie hottie sexpot who helps man find himself" rather than substantive parts in their own right, so Hollywood's perennial sexism likely has something to do with it.

Though I don't disagree with the assessment, I cut here a little slack.  She has struggled with acne for quite awhile, unrelated to alcohol.  As someone who went through this myself, I cut people a lot of slack.  Thankfully, modern medicine finally was able to clear up my cystoidal acne after a year of different medicines.  My skin is probably drier now than it would be otherwise, but I will take it compared to the pain (and embarrassment) I suffered with in high school.

My personal feeling is that Tom Hanks' shift to dramatic roles only exposed just how talentless he is.  He never struck me as particularly funny, but even if I can chalk that up to taste (humor is very much an individual thing, I get that), every dramatic role I've seen him in was painfully boring.  He tries and he desperately wants to be respected, but he's really not that good.  In fact he's downright bad.

Back to Diaz, I think she should stick to comedy -- just not sexy comedy.  Comedy is her thing, but there's more to her than trying to relive her twentysomething sexpot days.

Heron: I don't know if it's just that she's bad at picking roles or that there just aren't good roles like that for a woman with her looks or her age in Hollywood, but I do think she could do well following the same path.

Yeah, this is most likely the real problem; she's turning into a niche actress and in the process is running out of roles.  Hollywood is absolutely terrified of women.

I too think he is over-rated.  But I do think his work in Philadelphia stands out.  He was pretty good (but not as great as many think) in Saving Private Ryan.   Forest Gump was mostly caricature with the exception of a few good scenes.  His work in most everything else seems to be a practice in Hollywood saying "hey, this Tom Hanks guys is really good isn't he?" and not letting the rest of us forget that's what they think.

Good point,.  I was addressing the "dramatic role" issue.  From a comedic standpoint, I also liked him in 'Big' and even in 'Splash'.
