It'll make a hard man humble.

The game of chess is like a swordfight. It doesn't really get going until you start peeing on each other.

If my college had a chess team, I did not know it

I'm sure there is some type of defense for this. If not, we are really getting rooked. I feel bad for the kids though. They are just pawns in all of this.

Isn't this an activity, not a sport.

2 players in the 2700 club has to be pretty great for a college chess team. I could see So in the top 10 in a couple of years if not sooner.

No less so than wrestling, I guess.

Its program, which attracts players from Germany, Georgia and Russia, among other far-off places, offers a variety of scholarships, including five chess fellows funded by the school's campus soda contract with Pepsi. Fellows receive full tuition and a $15,000-a-year food and housing stipend.

But, you know, we can't give sports scholarships any sort of stipend, that would be bad.   I'm sure that Pepsi contract is just as big as NCAA Football TV contracts.

If by taxes physical you mean staying awake and upright in your chair, then yes - I guess you have a point.

Does anybody remember an old SNL video (circa 1984-85) with James Belushi as a high school chess coach?  Great spoof on Bobby Knight.  I've been trying to find that online for longer than I care to admit.

/pawn to rook four!

I first read that as "John Belushi" and was ready to make a snarky comment.

nudie bars..
