Spain also passed a law in 2005 mandating that both partners in a marriage do 50% of the housework.

I'm against laws like this for the same reason why I'm against laws criminalizing homosexuality and non-missionary sex. The privacy of one's home is paramount - that privacy should only be violated by the state if there's a real, compelling interest. Stopping child abuse, spousal abuse, etc...those are valid reasons. Legislating the actual conduct of a family inside its home outside of ensuring no behavior that harms others is stupid.

Gyrfalcon: I love that Spain puts this up and the same Americans whining over bratty, lazy entitled kids instantly condemn this law as an infringement on personal rights and what about abusive parents who shouldn't be respected?

Jeez, there's no pleasing some people.

It's entirely possible to not like a problem and also not like a shiatty solution to the problem.

Kids will be legally bound to respect their parents... what if their parents aren't worthy of respect? Spain's gotta have a few sh*t parents whose primary parenting tool is abuse. Then again, going to jail may be the better option in that scenario.
