which sought a complete dismissal of Thomas' legal challenge to its policy that forbids all inmates from having conjugal visits to have sexual relations with their spouses or significant others.

If all inmates are forbidden regardless of religion, it's not discrimination.

Several things.

Male guards aren't allowed to work in female prisons in most states for a wide variety of reasons.  For what that's worth.

Conjugal visits seem like a wise idea to me.

Polygamy complicates the issue somewhat for me, but since I don't have a problem with polyamory in general, so long as it's equitable, I have a hard time caring about that either.

It's not discrimination, but that doesn't mean it's good policy.

Or, you know, I guess we can always just make the lives of incarcerated people as miserable as possible.  That's worked well for us so far, after all.

Wonder if his wives are hot? Doubt it though.

I have read enough Penthouse... he should just drop his pants and jack it in front of the female guards... they will be all over it.

I can see the point of staffing a prison with guards of the same sex (but that really only works in a truly heterosexual society that we are not)....

I don't think conjugal visits are a good idea. This is a prison and not a mental hospital or reform school.

If the goal is to rehabilitate people, prison is not the place for it to be done.

He's polygamous for religious reasons.  There isn't a polygamous religion in the world where the marriage is equitable.  Sure you could probably make it work in a complex relationship with a bunch of adults, if you were to take God out of the picture, but when he's there, he kind of puts his juices all over everything and gunks them all up.

Most state prison systems do no allow conjugal visits.

How do they keep from stabbing each other?

Thomas contends that the conjugal visit prohibition discriminates against heterosexual inmates because those who are homosexual can engage in sex with each other.

"He claims his religion requires him to have multiple wives, although court documents don't say how many wives he has."

Incorrect. It allows him more than one wife, it does not require him to have any wives.

This should be really interesting if it gets legs, as we have a liberal court in PA

I'm assuming we're taking god out of the picture when discussing policies in our nation's correctional facilities.  Otherwise, you're making rules because "God", one way or another, and you're starting to discriminate.

Which is why this is framed as a security issue by the prison.

Actually, in most prisons now, inmate sex is presumptively rape and treated as such for disciplinary purposes, so even openly gay prisoners aren't getting any "benefits" straight prisoners don't have.

Another legal issue that the courts need to deal with.

However, the judges allowed Thomas to keep pressing his argument in court after concluding that he still has a case under the federal Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, which prohibits measures that prevent prisoners from worshipping as they please.

Aztec Jose is gonna have a field day.

Which sucks for the inmates who ARE raped, as they are presumptively co-perpetrators.

/not kidding.

It certainly prevents me from having any sympathy for Mr. I need my multiple wives for sex, though.

2014-04-29 10:50:20 PM
I still recall when SC state prisons put in place new rules that nearly sent the entire Muslim prisoner population into riot.  The changes, forcing them to shave their beards, and changing the prison uniforms to something used by both genders of inmates.  So losing the beards was terrible enough, but wearing something unisex counts as cross dressing in their minds.  It was 18 years ago, no one cared then, and no one cares now.  He should've blown himself up so he could have his 72 virgins, and saved the taxpayers some money.

2014-04-29 11:28:13 PM
You know, he gets shelter, meals, free education, communication with some of the outside world, access to entertainment and a commissary to purchase convenience items, free healthcare/medications, and the right to worship as he pleases within certain security restrictions. Sounds like a decent deal for a rotten bastard who killed another person. He can masturbate. If it's good enough for millions of free men who aren't getting sex when they want it, it ought to be good enough for a murdering waste of humanity like this asshole.

Yes, she quit her job because of all the problems she was having with the prisoners.  She was very attractive, and the inmates where giving her problems.  She became a bartender at the local bar.  Wish I had a picture to show you.

Why would we want him to have conjugal visits anyways? Wouldn't that possibly produce more kids he couldn't support, and in turn, WE would have to?

ITT I learned that prison rape is funny, and conjugal visits are bad.

I assume conjugal visits are bad because we find prison rape funny, and they would reduce the amount of prison rape.

That about it?

Prisons are for incarcerating and separating the people who are dangerous to society. It's not rehab and it's not a summer camp, nor should it be.

The argument could be made that many of the people in prison would be better off in a rehabilitation type environment, but that's not what this is about.
