Scrotastic Method: hitmanric: They're not horrible, they're not incredible, they're just.......Rush. And yet the fanbase can be as vapid as the Beatles following in the 60's.

That means "shallow." The word you're looking for is "rabid."

I know exactly what it means. You probably never met any "Rush is the best evarrrrrr!" fans.

Well you're still using wrong, for knowing so much about what it means. "Vapid" means shallow, dull, uninspired, lifeless, thin, bland, etc. That's the opposite of the kind of religious fervor you're talking about. If someone is excited, like a Rush fan needing six "R"s to talk about how they're the best thing ever, they necessarily can't be vapid.

Bruce Springsteen's Next Tour Stop: Everybody's got mixed feelings.

The remasters need a soft filter,
new reissue has reverse polarity.

/I love that bassline.
//play it all the time.

rcf1105: I love Rush, but their first album sounds largely like a Led Zeppelin ripoff.

You are right about this.  The self-titled Rush album is Led Zeppelin without the balls.

And if that's what you're into, Heart was doing the same thing in the 1970s to better effect.

A bit late, but I'll chime in.

FeedTheCollapse: They have some good material, but a whole lot of mediocre crap. I can't really understand the intense love for a band whose catalogue is pretty consistently 6/10.

I respectfully disagree. There are only 2 Rush tracks I believe are really no good

Tai Shan from Hold Your Fire -- even Geddy in 2009 called it an error "We should have known better."

Dog Years from Test For Echo -- ridiculous lyrics, crazy music. Filler for sure.

rcf1105: Also, Vapor Trails was the only album of theirs that needed remastering..

Ah, but it was remixed last year. Cleaned up a lot of the muddy production, but unfortunately erased some of the original overdubs in the process.

If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice

Most music falls under the "meh" category.

Most? That's one of the most ridiculous things I've read recently. Maybe if you only listen to the radio. There are plenty of incredible bands around if you care and are paying attention.

Ya most. The majority of all great music has been tempered with outright crap that gets massed produced these days. Considering the stuff on the radio now general "meh" classification isn't that bad.

There's no way you've heard enough music to talk about "most" of it being anything. Because if you had, you wouldn't have such an uninformed, unappreciative opinion.

Especially now with all the free or cheap stuff available online. One could probably listen to new material back to back constantly for the rest of their natural life and still not come close to hearing "most" music out there.
