That was pretty good.  They should now make a brew and title it "Fark You PG Ale" or something.

"The Code rules do not exist to prevent humorous or innovative brand marketing but to make sure that humour is used responsibly. We urge producers to exercise due diligence and consult our Code Advisory Team if they are in any doubt," said Henry Ashworth, chief executive of the Portman Group, which provides the Secretariat for the ICP.

It's a fair bet that Henry Ashworth has never actually had any fun in his entire life.

Yeah, don't buy it or you'll get your own strongly-worded letter. From what I can tell, that's how they enforce that particular Code.

Since when is an industry trade group a "nanny state". Because reasons and such as, I suppose?

Anyway, I don't see how anybody is really obligated to listen to their little alert. If Brewdog has enough, and vocal enough, customers to put economic pressure on distributors who demand the product, what are they going to do?

"The Panel considered the overall impression conveyed by the product, the strength of the beer (Alc 3.8% Vol), as well as the text on the back label.

Even if you're knocking those back by the pint you'll be making a lot of trips to the restroom before you get wasted. Can you even drink beer with <4% ABV irresponsibly?

So some drunk scots and a little hamlet got in a tizzy over what is esssentially England's version of the confederate flag controversy and this is somehow relevant to trade groups being "nannies"?

This has nothing to do with nannying and everything to do with entrenched corporate interests in Europe trying to abuse their enriched positions to stifle upstart competitors. They couldn't give a flying fark less about what anybody thinks of the label, they're just using "responsibility" standards as a lame excuse for muscling out somebody that could potentially take sales away from them. Brewdog is still small enough that it can engage in these sorts of novel marketing techniques so they want to try and cut them out before they have a chance to use that marketing to grow into a real threat..

When it comes to corporate interests, never assume their motivations in any endeavour are anything other than their own profit. ESPECIALLY if dishonesty is involved.

So, you've picked one article about flying St. George's cross in Scotland, where it is not the national flag, and another about a council deciding to fly a Union Flag, the national flag of the UK instead of St. George's cross.

There are some issues in those articles; namely that some Scots are bigoted against the English, and that because English nationalists fly their flag so proudly it can make English patriots wary of displaying it.

Not sure where any nanny statism is coming into play.

They are not a legal regulatory body, if that is what you are referring to. They are more like the PMRC in the US that bullied their way into having rating labels on music and video games, and changed the rating system for movies

The Portman Group´s free Advisory Service to ensure labels comply with the rules. The Portman Group Code is supported by over 140 organizations including all the major retailers who have given their commitment to abide by the rulings of the Independent Complaints Panel.

I'll bet 138 of the organizations are groups like Village Mothers Unsupported by Drinking Dads (V-Madd)....
