Zeb Hesselgresser: Don't worry, the time will come when this sort of civil disobedience will be met with a swift and brutal response.  Right now, it's just not politically expedient.

Be patient, we'll get our boots on their throats soon enough.

Threating to shoot people is not "Civil disobedience". Nor is setting up highway checkpoints and harassing people who live there. That's called "Armed thuggery". Civil disobedience kinda normally has a non violent theme to it.

cannibalparrot: So you're saying we could get rid of them all at once?

I'm really not seeing a downside here...

Pretty much what I was thinking.  Also most of those people are clowns without the resources to do much of anything other than hide in the Alaskan wilderness and pretend their obese asses are Rambo.  When confronted with certain death from a confrontation with a superior military opponent, the whiskey rebellioneers backed down immediately and went home, and they were mostly battle hardened vets of the revolutionary war.

A lot of these guys are wierdo pussies who "breaching" on trailers out in the woods because they think its cool.  Most of them have no knowledge that would in any way be applicable to a confrontation with an actual military power.

I think one of the things that really stands out to me is how many Americans think an AR-15 would let them handle some tyrannical attempt to off them.  A concerted effort to eliminate you, even if it was just our local law enforcement would be instantly fatal to basically anyone.  When they aren't worried about taking you alive (or pretending they were) they can just point a heat camera at your house and shoot you through your stupid drywall.  If the military were involved whoa buddy would you be farked, and that's saying a lot considering how farked you were to begin with.

Someone in a group called "Oath Keepers" is a dishonest piece of shiat? That's about as appropriate as James O'Keefe calling his group "Project Veritas".

Unless the "oath" that these guys are keeping is a promise to be a moronic dipshiat.

Never said it does.  It does allow them to bear said arms.  As I understand, no one has 'used' their guns yet.  Feel free to provide me a place where a firearm has been fired at this point in the debacle.

Brandishing or threatening with a firearm is illegal under Nevada law.  A weapon doesn't not have to fired, to be used in an illegal manner.

I just find this Mollycoddling shiat ridiculous. The only leverage these people have is their politically unpalatable deaths. At some point conservative Americans need to learn they can't keep taking themselves hostage to get things.

Call them an invading army and close the door on this shiat. Reclaim bundystan with fire and blood for the good of the nation

HeadLever: Killing them when not being actively threatened with deadly force is outside the government's rights.

Of course it isn't!  Hey you know if a SWAT team shows up at your door because you told the Sheriff you'd shoot anyone who tried to repo the truck you've stopped making payments on, they're not allowed to come in and get you with weapons hot.  All you have to do is just explain you have a ton of guns in there and will gladly shoot them if they try violating your sovereign rights, and it's like you called "base".

Its in the constitution.

Super_pope: I don't understand where you get the idea a bunch of people gathering to threaten violence against government agents would expect to not face consequences if we dropped a bomb on the first guys who did it.

Because you can expect push-back by citizens when due process rights have been violated?  Why would that not be expected at that point?

And if this were a true assertion about how people react to things, it would be a valid conclusion.  People don't react to degree of consequences, only their own estimation of whether they will face consequences at all.

More deterrence by sharper punishment does not work.

chasd00: Super_pope: ikanreed: but there's simply no need to lay the mushroom clouds on these clowns.

Disagree.  Permitting these guys to walk away (to my knowledge none of the "defenders" were arrested for this garbage will embolden more of these country-fried shiatkickers to think they can get away with this garbage if they have the guns (never mind that Cliven Bundy's crap will eventually be seized, because by then the news cycle will have passed him by).

In a lot of ways it makes me think of 'Stand your ground.'  A ton of idiots have just heard the buzzwords, know it was used in the Zimmerman case (even though it really wasn't, and didn't apply) and are now shooting people by surprise and going, "I felt threatened, I was standing my ground!"

If idiots think this kind of stuff works, it will only get worse.  Giving ANY impression that this crap could ever function for you will lead to morons (even stupider less controlled morons) doing it again until someone gets killed.

Respond overwhelmingly the first time and any impression that this is a good idea will evaporate with the vaporized flesh of the bundy clan.

you couldn't be more wrong. If there's a stand off and confrontation every militia will flock to the area and you'll end up with a Waco 10x situation with no choice but to take them all down. It would be a nightmare.

You know as soon as those idiots see that thing a few of them will start taking shots at it and screaming about government drones coming. Then that will escalate into more people screaming about the government is coming and paranoidly shooting at whatever is moving. And in about 10 minutes you would have half of them dead. I wouldn't be surprised if the idiots set up booby traps around there also and people would get killed in those trying to escape the paranoia that was started by one prankster with a radio controlled airplane.

I'm not seeing a downside.

Really wish people would stop reporting efforts to seize Bundy's land since, you know, it isn't farking his.  That's kind of the point of this whole thing, and reporting that the land belongs to Bundy changes the entire farking nature of the issue.  Lazy-ass "journalists".

Washington sent in the army to handle those Whiskey Rebellion motherfarkers.  That worked out pretty good.

I personally think that letting people flout the rule of law because they gathered a bunch of armed people to threaten violence is absolutely anathema to a functioning state and should be punished beyond ALL other offenses.  There should have been no romantic last stand for this guy and his militia, nor any impression that they triumphed or lingering celebrity with douchey conservatives.

They should have been killed calmly and impersonally from ten miles out with a thermobaric bomb to purge the land of their poison, the land should have been seized as ordered, and if they didn't like it, well they could have not banded together to take up arms in support of some turd not paying the bills he's racked up by knowingly breaking the law for 20 years

dopirt: TheBigJerk: Bundy gang sets up highway checkpoints.

Oh Jeez,  I hope this thing can be defused peacefully. Have Bundy's people crossed the line into felonious actions, or can they still just walk away?

According to Horsford, his constituents say the militia have set up checkpoints where residents must prove they live in the area before they are allowed to pass and have set up a "persistent presence" along federal highways, and state and county roads. They also claim some have established an armed presence in the community.

Those might carry felony strength.
