Tearing dpwn churches = persecution/oppression

Having to include contraception in health insurance plans =/= persecution/oppression

Now, STFU whiny American Christians

Officials rejected those accusations, alleging the church had violated building codes.

In China?

The Chinese have more to dislike about Christianity than most, considering the wholesale slaughter that occurred there during that Taiping Rebellion, although Mao did cite that rebellion as inspiration.

So in a weird roundabout way, Jesus is responsible for Chinese Communism.

As a Christian, I agree. Allowing others in our country to worship or not worship a different god is not an oppression of my rights. But the PC media dare not bring up on the war on Christianity and Judaism in the Middle East and northern Africa.

I was reading the other day that China will soon have more Christians than the US

Well and a couple hundred years of Christian with one hand, opium with the other and gunboat diplomacy up their Yang-zee.

If I were Jesus, and there was a war against Me, I'd smite the living hell out of everybody involved. I wouldn't have stood there while they crucified Me, either. And you better believe I'd have gotten laid about thirty times a day.

All in all, Christianity would be a damn sight more fun if I were Jesus.

Gee I know, it really tugs on the heartstrings to see religious minorities getting persecuted by radical, violent, state-backed fundamentalists. Thankfully nothing like that ever happens in America, due to the constitutionally mandated separation of church and state.

Son, if I were the Christ, beer would be delivered unto they who believed in Me, on demand. You might want to stay off the roads though.

Not just the Taiping Rebellion but the Boxer Rebellion, the involvement of the Churches in the Opium Wars, the huge tracts of China carved out for missionaries "to civilize the heathen Chinee", so on and so forth. "Buddha came into China on a white horse. Christ came in on a cannonball."

Persecution my arse.

It's what I call a good start.

Christianity in Asian countries is nothing more than eating and liking McDonald's.

Maybe FOX News might actually learn something from this.

And why do I find this somewhat funny? Like "How dare you try to push your Christianity over our Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. Eat this."

Thing is, they're aware of the persecution in China, and I've heard Christians talk about it all the time. But they either think that the US will end up that way, or, even worse, they compare themselves to the people in China.

The code that says that officials get to make up whatever rules and enforce them on whomever they want.

See Christians, that is what persecution looks like.  What it doesn't look like, is when the government tells you that you can't have your holy icons inside a courthouse, or when they won't let your children bully the gay kids.

2014-04-28 11:19:37 PM
All I see here is the Chinese treating Christians in the same manner that the Christians want the U.S. to treat Muslims.

See Militant Atheists, imagine what the religious right will do and say once you try imposing rules like that here.
You will justify ever bit of fear mongering they ever said, then the fun will begin.

Well, it is a really ugly church. Looks like it was made out of Lego.

But yeah, China hates religion. Gets in the way of worshiping the government.

Seriously... the only time one should speak up is when someone else is calling them stupid for their beliefs, or outright saying "Missionaries killed by locals! HAH! Take that, Christians!"

That's abuse... everything else is just free speech when compared to what others have to go through.

2014-04-28 11:36:27 PM
Lots of Christians in China. 2-4% overall, a large % in some areas. China actually has a freedom of religion, but it's a short list of sanctioned ones. And only available to adults over the age of 18.

I'd go with the argument they didn't keep the bribes up. You could see steel where they ripped the skin off it, so it's probably earthquake safe.

2014-04-28 11:37:22 PM
China... where the war on Christmas involves armored columns, artillery and air support.

The USA... where the war on Christmas involves wishing someone "Happy Holidays!"

Unlike what many say, China isn't actually anti-religion.  Rather, they come down very harshly on any group that claims any ultimate authority other than Beijing.  This is how Christianity (and some other religions) get themselves on Beijing's shait list:  They're breaking the #1 commandment of China: Thou shalt have no other supreme authority other than Beijing.

Religions like Buddhism do not attempt to usurp the state's authority and thus generally do not draw Beijing's wrath.

They are, in fact, still anti-religion, at least as a private organization. The govt's goal is to suppress all religions whose leaders are not fully controlled by the govt.

This isn't persecution.  Look at North Korea.

WTF is wrong with you people?

It seems that this is what some radical anti-Christians (I won't even dignify them by calling them atheists) want to do in the US.

Kurmudgeon: See Militant Atheists, imagine what the religious right will do and say once you try imposing rules like that here.

So if a largely non-existent population of militant atheists get total power, the reaction of the religious right will be what China's doing, despite the fact they don't have power because the militant atheists have the power. And oh yeah, these followers of peaceful Jesus are just waiting for an excuse to get mid-evil on your ass.

This is what Republicans actually believe.

Why is it you can't find any "radical anti-Christians" that say they want to do this? The only people that say "radical anti-Christians" want to do this are the religious right, that derive power from instilling fear in their base.

Why is that?

Answer.
