Maybe they can find a missing white girl somewhere, or a Supreme Court case they can misinterpret at ludicrous speed.

CNN is going to try its damnedest, that much is certain.

I wish they'd shut the fark up until they, you know, actually find some wreckage. The horse they are beating is beyond dead.

Gotta feel sorry for their loved ones getting slammed around in all of this misinformation.

What else they got to counter that Fox nightly ratings grabber, Benghazi!

Fox News sure could by saying it's President Obama's fault.

Sure they will, they'll just interrupt regular scheduled programming with their pointless almost regular unscheduled programming obsessing over this plane

/damnit anthony bourdain why the hell did you agree to go to CNN

I turned on CNN to get some coverage about the storms in AK overnight...

15 mins of missing flight coverage for every 2min of storm coverage.

CNN has really gone over the rail this time.

See your doctor if you experience a misdirection lasting more than four months.

The plane landed at a secret airfield in Borneo.   Passengers killed and dumped in mass grave.
Plane is being refitted with explosives and will be used in an unspecified/unprecedented terrorist attack in the near future.

They've gone full MH370. You never go full MH370.

For over two weeks, a US Navy Bluefin 21 submarine has been scouring the remote Indian Ocean search area off Australia's west coast for weeks

Bluefin
must have its sonar on a redundant network.

I bet some kid hacked into the planes computers and thought it was a game.

The plane flew a rift in the sky. Everyone who was asleep went back to a time when langolier references were fresh.

I think a bunch of guys hacked it and yelled at the flight crew while they were sleeping.

This whole situation is embarassing from so many angles, it's sickening.

1.  They never should have lost track of the plane.
2.  How could they possibly not find it afterward?
3.  The media has been on this like a dog in heat humping someone's leg - working hard and getting nowhere.  All trying to beat the other network to the punch.

who pays for 8 months worth of this search? I can totally see everyone chipping in and people not involved footing the bill when there's a chance people can still be saved but at this point who gives a shiat if the plane is found or never found.

The conspiracy theorist in me wants this to partly be true, with the exception that they miswire the timers and it blows up way before harming lots of other innocent people.

I mean aside from all of the passengers that are already dead.

That fact that commercial aircraft, anywhere on the planet, lack multiple/redundant tracking devices that CANNOT be turned off by the damn crew is absolutely insane.

I suppose the best that we can do is to make this an easter egg hunt of sorts for the worlds underwater search types.  If we're lucky, we find it, and some improved technology comes out of it.

At this point, we can slow the pace down if it will make things more economical.  The chance of recovering live survivors is sadly long past.

Actually, I think they have the passenger bodies on ice.  They load the explosives and then load the passengers bodies on the plane before taking off for the attack.  That way it'll add and extra air of mystery when they comb over the wreckage.

Some aviation expert explained that in an earlier thread. Those beacons jack up local comms when you're on the ground; they need to be turned off at times.

So the USA is simply not telling them because then the whole world would know that every single thing on the planet is being recorded by them?

seriously  how bad is this gonna look in 3 to 50 years when the information leaks out that the USA knew exactly where it was and did nothing to

A) help them survive the initial impact by directing people there quicker
B) knowing that no one survived simply did not let people know so that they could at least have closure?

Are they on purpose setting up a whole new branch of young kids that will turn terrorists just to prop up the War Machine and ensure a republican is elected to help clean up "Obama's Folly" in 25 years?

Somehow...somewhere...this is probably just a huge money grab for someone or a select few...

When my Dad and Brother were lost at sea with 7 crew members on board the USCG gave up the search after two weeks. I guess there were some important people on this flight to warrant the governments spending millions, maybe even billions looking for it.

Not sure what CNN was thinking, other than that the crash debris and bodies were found within days after Air France 447 crashed. But it was almost TWO YEARS before they found the black boxes from that flight; did CNN actually think they could hold our attention that long?

The U.S. government is neither as capable nor as Machiavellian as you seem to think they are. Trolling for keywords in phone and Internet traffic is a lot easier to automate than trying to centrally monitor every radar track in the world. And satellite imagery is usually days out of date.

So, in 2014, we just have to accept that we can't keep track of a commercial plane with 100s of people on board? It is just beyond our ability to track them?

Probably.

1. They could not have helped losing track of the plane. We do not have the entire globe under radar surveillance and their satellite transponder was switched off.

2. Do you have any idea how big and deep the Indian Ocean is? This isn't Lake Erie we're talking about.

3. The media exists to entertain people these days, not bide their time, find the truth and report responsibly. The worst thing that ever happened to journalism is the instant information nature of the internet and the expectation that we have to know something, anything right this second. CNN in particular has abdicated it's duty as a news medium for the sake of luring in the people who would otherwise be watching reality TV. The networks used to lose money on their news desks. Not so anymore. The money is more important than the news.

The website for NBC news has this handy dandy little counter for how many stories have been done on a particular topic. MH370 is up to 527 now.Ukraine is up to 809.Just to see, I checked Bieber and Kardashian to see where they stood and they don't have counters on those kind of stories. Saved me from some extra depression over the current state of the news.

When it comes to governments protecting their own interests, no amount of our money is too great. Once they're sure this airframe is at the bottom of the ocean, governmental interest will diminish to just the NTSB. Until such time, any detected flight with a radar return bigger than a cessna and not broadcasting the proper information will result in F-18's being scrambled, especially near any national government seat. I guarantee it.
