The list would be a helluva lot longer if that were the only criteria. There's almost nothing decent on TV anymore.

Hey who wants to bet China will allow '24' when it comes back? The Chinese gov't must love that show!

I haven't sat through many episodes either but my first thought would be that I doubt they go through the trouble of hiring actual physicists to punch up the dialog and make the characters sound smart. Correct me if I'm wrong, like I said I've hardly watched any of it.

All I know is that initially I thought that the kid who is almost but not quite Frasier's brother is highly punchable. But then I found out he's gay irl and that would be a hate crime so now he's awesome.

No, you see the great thing about America is that you can have terrible taste in things and not only will you be allowed to indulge in that taste, you will be loudly applauded for it. In fact you'll find Americans generally a little suspicious of those things that attempt to rise too far above the lowest common denominator.

They have staff science writers. One can aso notice that during the course of every season the various equations and charts around sets evolve to show a progression from working on very large physics problems.

They have a guy on staff with a PhD in physics writing all the stuff on the white boards.  Apparently,  it is some scientifically controversial stuff at times, and other times it is very subtle nerd humor.  He wrote one line for the script, but only one.  He also checks science references in the script.  Read an interview with him.  Sounds like he loves his job.

Well sorry but common TV sucks right now. That opinion doesn't make me cool or hip.

I was a big fan of Breaking Bad when it was on, that was definitely popular. I watch Game of Thrones, that's huge. I sort of watch The Walking Dead. I watched Psych when it was on. shiat, I watch Castle and NCIS (mostly for Becket and Abby respectively). You can't get any more bland and mainstream than those two.

The most popular shiat on TV right now are talent/game shows and reality TV. You can't call someone a hipster for hating that garbage. Everything else is cop/doctor/lawyer shows and it's boring. And the sitcoms are shiat. It's not trying to be cool to hate that crap, it's just having more than 2 brain cells to rub together.

Hannibal is awesome though. It has one more season, tops before it gets the axe. That show does not belong on NBC.

Obviously he means popular TV. Shows that get high ratings. Programs that people watch a lot. Here's an interpretive dance to explain it further. Shiat, you can't see it. Well you'll have to reason it out from the clues given to you.

I think you've confused her with Alicia Silverstone

In addition to being an anti-vaxxer, Bialik is the one who breastfed her son until he was four years old, and then, once he finally weaned, feeds him a strict vegan diet. She's also "Diaper Free", allowing her kiids to piss and shiat wherever and whenever it happens to happen. She potty trained her kids years too early, and sleeps with her children in a "family bed." She's a farking kook, no doubt, but she doesn't even come close to Silverstone in the Insane Parenting Olympics

It's almost as if what a person finds funny isn't necessarily attached to being a geek.... fancy that.

She's also "Diaper Free", allowing her kiids to piss and shiat wherever and whenever it happens to happen. She potty trained her kids years too early, and sleeps with her children in a "family bed." oh, and with this, I think they blew their load way too early i the series.  When an entire plot point is based on "will they/won't they" and they do in what, season 3?  then where do you go?  They obviously shifted some of that to the Sheldon/Amy relationship, but even that is getting old.

You can be as much of a dick as you like, but that doesn't change the fact that the Honeymooners didn't have a laugh track - not only was it shot in front of a live audience, it was broadcast live, so no laugh track. I can't speak to the authenticity of any particular youTube clip

And using I love Lucy is an even worse example, since that show used a live audience specifically because Lucille Ball felt she needed to perform in front of a live audience to be at her best

Hmm. So Desi has the gift of astral projection. He can be on stage and in the audience at the same time. Cool.

It's called "sweetening". There might be a live audience but they're not all going to laugh when they're supposed to, especially if there are multiple takes. So they add a track in post.

So what category do the later seasons of All in the Family fall into?

By the final season before it became Archie Bunkers Place, AITF was taped without an audience, but the show was played for a live audience to record their responses. Does that qualify as a laugh track, even though it was a live audience watching the already filmed show?

The laughter is still real live audience reactions to the actual jokes in the show as they are being told, even though it's the final edited version rather than the live filming that they are reacting to, so I would say no, it's not a laugh track. Given that Norman Lear apparently took pride in the fact that the show never used "canned laughter" during it's entire run, it would seem that he felt the same way. I don;t know if there is some industry standard definition or "official" answer

I clearly remember Rob Reiner's voiceover: "All in the Family was recorded on tape before a live audience." Wikipedia tells me they changed it to to Carroll O'Connor saying "All in the Family was played to a studio audience for live responses" when they started doing that, but I don't specifically remember it.

If I recall correctly, there were a couple of shows that used this technique, including I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched. But after the success of All in the Family, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show shortly afterward, live audiences became a staple for many popular sitcoms of the period

Even some sitcoms that started with laugh tracks caved in and switched to live audiences - The Odd Couple was one, because of pressure from Tony Randall. Happy Days was another, making it the third of three terrible examples in the original post I initially was responding to

/And the Practice gets points for its final season basically being Boston Legal season 0.

Mayim Bialik is no ditz. not a physicist, but a neuroscientist.

Is she one of the writers?

Worse. She's an antivaxxer

And a proponent of "Attachment Parenting"

She also bird feeds her kids. It means exactly what it sounds like.

I've never seen it in print but I've heard Bailik mention it.

Yes, she is a proponent of the bird feeding technique and has said as much in interviews.

so, she really...

Currently re-binging The Practice, subby can bite me.  Not as good as Boston Legal, but still good.

Mugato: Mid_mo_mad_man: It's hip to hate the Bang. Meanwhile Lorre is laughing all the way to the bank

Why people say shiat like "It's hip" to hate something? What does that even mean?

It means it's popular.  I think you knew that but you have irritable bowel syndrome.

I don't care for tbbt.

That said anyone who thinks it crap is just being contrarian. It is far better acted and written than most crap. The cream of the crap I would say I guess :)

2.  Sheldon knocks before entering
3.  Profit

And Sheldon recoils in horror at two girls getting it on.

And then Bernadette enters, slowly removing her bra, and dropping it to the floor...

Go on...

I get my robe and wizard hat....

Billygoat Gruff: monoski: Arkanaut: Ha! Even Atheist Communist China doesn't believe in Big Bang Theory anymore. Checkmate, libs.

You are free to relocate to free-thinking China anytime. You could also go to Russia, I hear they the type of leader the GOP wants instead of Fartbongo.

A leader with some balls? Who doesnt want that? Barry is simply outmatched. I hate that he look likes like Putin's biatch and that he looks weak. But you guys wanted somebody like that because you were so sad about the rest of the world not liking the US. Well they still don't like us and they probably dont fear us as much either so I guess you sorta got what ya wanted.

Russian economy is down 20% and their currency is trading at an all-time low. How is that tough guy thing working out?

Also, the number of American casualties so far has been zero.

I really wish America could get past this neanderthal "tough guy" bullshiat. I'm tired of our people dying on foreign soil. Diplomacy can't always work for everything, but it should be our first resort wherever possible.

I don't care if Putin fears us. I care that he stops gobbling up former Soviet nations. I don't care how that happens, as long as it causes as few American casualties as possible.

Anyway, I don't know where this image of Obama as a wimp came up. Under his direction, Osama bin Laden died, after being written off by Obama's predecessor. Obama bombed Libya and has been droning people to death all over the world. The world doesn't like us because we insist on playing the world's beat cop, and they ridicule us because our government can't get anything done even while we lag behind the world in health care, criminal justice, and education.

Anyway, all that aside, Kaley Cuoco is super-hot, and I'd watch back-to-back episodes of Chelsea Lately if she was on them both. And that's saying something.

Mugato: It's called "sweetening". There might be a live audience but they're not all going to laugh when they're supposed to, especially if there are multiple takes. So they add a track in post.

CTRL-F... s-w-e-e-t....

Yeah, I knew this debate would happen. And you're correct. The audience's laughter is recorded and pasted where needed when other jokes fall flat. The show is amusing, but there is no way that an audience (that was not dosed with something first) would laugh that uproariously at every single joke, every time the take was redone. It's a laugh track, just that the canned laughter was freshly canned right at the show.

"Sweetening", "pre-enjoyed", "intelligent design"... obfuscating the terminology to make it sound more acceptable does not change these from being "laugh tracks", "used", and "creationism".

Fark if I know, you said it.

Nevermind. I took offense at my own comment.

That is awesome. I have replied to my own drunken text from the previous night, but you win.
