Day_Old_Dutchie: Back in the 1950s and 60s, one way to demonstrate how thrifty you were (and again, this was extremely important for moms back then!) was to feed your kids tomato soup served up with white Wonder bread spread with that fluorescent yellow margarine for lunch.Really the most BORING meal in the world. To this day I cannot ABIDE tomato soup.But appearances were everything back then. You had to show your kids and your neighbors how seriously you took that money-saving thing.
