fusillade762: What a stupid, stupid question.

It's a question designed to allow the responder to offer emotional reassurance, as the article itself notes. If emotions are dumb, well ok, but I'd prefer the word childish.

Which is probably why they had a child ask the question.

fusillade762: What a stupid, stupid question.

Every question is stupid though. There's that saying that the only stupid question is the one unasked - coined by someone who never watched a modern interview. It can't get any worse than right now, across the board. Sports interviews are the gold standard. People make fun of the athletes responses but when someone asks "How did you pull off that win tonight?" there's no reason for any answer more creative than "You know, we just executed our game plan, you know"

Entertainment interviewers have always been vapid but now it's like The Chris Farley show is par for the course. I saw some Game of Thrones red carpet thing the other day and the woman was terrorist fistbump levels of stupid. One of her questions was "When I saw that [wedding]...I was like...NOOOOOOOOOO". That was her question. She said it and then and shoved the mic in the guys face like he was supposed to answer it.

I changed to 48 hours last night and immediately changed away when the interviewers first question was "How does a former beauty queen....become involved in a murder investigation?" The fark? What does that have to do with anything?

Obama would lend Putin a hand if Putin was drowning? Probably in the same way Bugs Bunny would lend Elmer Fudd an anvil.

I totally heard that Obama wrote that song cause he saw Putin not doing anything when some kid drowned, and at the last G8 summit when Obama played it he totally had them put the spotlight on Putin so everyone would know.

Looking at it from my perspective, questions like that look like the interview equivalent of small talk, or icebreakers. Nothing particularly wrong with one or two questions like this to keep the conversation going.

Correct me if I'm wrong about the small talk thing. I'm bad at social anything.

The other day my baby came to me,
And she said, "I'm kinda confused.
If me and B. B. King were drowning,
Which one would you choose?"
And I said, "Whoooah, baby."
I said, "Whoooah, baby."
I said, "Whoooah, baby,
I ain't never heard you play no blues."

The small talk is useful in lengthy one-on-one interviews, where you need to develop a rapport before you ask something like "And when did you realize your Administration had violated the law?"

When you get to ask one question.  One.  Of the president of the United farking States of America.  And you go for "What's your favorite color?"  You've dropped the ball.

Pretty much the whole album is about that. It was written from a point of misery, confusion, and uncertainty about lfe, which is why it is so much better than everything he produced afterwards.

... I forgot pain, fear, and aggression... All of those are great sources of artistic inspiration.

This. Unless anyone wants to argue the point about the great artistic creation that is "Sussudio" or "Easy Lover".

The question was originally asked of Putin during his annual Q&A propaganda fest.  I think they said a 6 year old girl was asking the question.  (Do you think Obama would save you if you were drowning?).

EVERY SINGLE QUESTION was like that.  All of them were pre-picked and vetted and Putin knew exactly what he was going to say.

Putin graciously said he did believe Obama would save him.

I'd let the bastard almost drown. About seven or eight times in a row.

And then I'd bring the Ukranian Ambassador (if there is one) over to watch Poot bubble around a bit more, then ask HIM, "Well dude, you wanna watch me and my Marines pull that flailing guy outta the water, or what?"
I'm not a nice person sometimes.

He got angrier on the second album.  'I Don't Care Anymore' is a pissed off song.. I happened to hear it on the radio the other week, followed instantly by 'Hey Jude', and it was a jarring combo.
