Yeah, one guy proves that it's libs who are to blame.

Hey, WFBtards, pay attention.  Increasing wealth disparity is bad for America.  Fewer and fewer people wielding more and more wealth and political power is bad for democracy.

I don't care if those wielding obscene wealth to tip politics (even more) in favor of the uber-elites are "conservative" or "liberal."  It's bad, period.

IOW, NO U!!!! is not an effective counter-argument to the concerns about increasing wealth disparity.

Try again, you pathetic hacks.

The majority of the wealthy and powerful really aren't fanatics of any kind, except maybe for amassing more wealth and power.

FTFA:

"President Obama, who appears frequently on Comcast-owned networks, has golfed with Cohen's boss."

You have to ask yourself why Obama would be getting any airtime on any network at all.  What's up with that?  I'd also like to see the visitor logs to see how often Obama is being allowed to visit the Whitehouse.

It's really staggering how much conservatives miss the point on Pikketty. Dude writes a magnum opus which tells a 400 year story about how capital grows faster than the economy, and how we're repeating a worldwide historical pattern in which wealth congregates at the top of the scale by inheritence.

What's the conservative response? "Liberals are rich also".

Great rejoinder.

That basically sums it up.

anthropogenic climate change = Al Gore has a private jet
Billionaires pay less taxes than their secretary = Buffet is a hypocrite because he can right a check to the Government if he wants to
Racism = Al Sharpton

FTA Capital in the Twenty-First Century, which argues that America has entered a second Gilded Age of vast inequality, inherited fortunes, and oligarchic politics, where the shape of public discourse and public policy is determined by a wealthy few.

Except it's actually about the relative growth rates of GDP versus investment income over the last thousand years or so.

So given that the opening premise is completely wrong we can safely ignore everything else.

Think rich conservatives rule the world? Think again.

No, I think they rule the USA.

OK, I thought again and it's still the same.

Also I love their argument.  Some wealthy people give to Democrats therefore wealthy people don't have disproportionate influence.

It's almost as if there was some sort of economic problem that was the worst since the Great Depression. Have you heard of something like that happening recently? It could also maybe have something to do with the GOP blocking everything in Congress, too. Are you going to dispute that?

In a recession that Congress refuses to help, income inequality gets worse, there are more unemployed, and minorities get the worst of it. Who would have thought? Captain Obvious(ly not racist) to the rescue!

Personally I am just happy nutjob conservatives like you are finally worrying about income inequality, unemployment, and minorities. I wonder if that will change if a Republican gets elected in 2016...

The Democratic Party in the U.S. is a conservative party.  Bill Clinton and Barack Obama were conservative presidents.  Rich people who support the Democrats aren't going against their own interests.

Why are these objective facts so tough for some intelligent people to wrap their heads around?

2014-04-27 01:45:15 PM
It's more of a symbiotic relationship.
People who are not career politicians don't get to be in charge, so the people in charge make their living from "being in charge"; i.e. writing and enforcing the laws to their financial (and electoral) advantage.
Likewise, the rich use their money to purchase favors from the politicians because it gives them an advantage.
They have every reason to scratch each other's backs and no reason not to.
This is the fundamental flaw in progressivism: It requires the belief that politicians will go against their own interests in order to help out the little guy, which is absurd.
Likewise, the argument that "less govt = more control by the corporations". The government is the mechanism through which corporations exert control in the first place.

If you ever want a government that's not beholden to the rich, it must be more accountable to the People.

I'm pretty sure the author of this silly piece takes it for granted that "Democrat" and "conservative" are opposites, but then this person gives no indication being intelligent, either. I don't know of any intelligent people who would believe such twaddle.

Weighing objective facts is hard work.  Rather than deciding which conservative option to vote for, it's much easier to just vote against the anti-white, Christian-hating, Kenyan-born, muslin Communist dictator

The Democratic Party turned conservative after Carter lost the election, Dukakis lost badly, moderates ran to the Republican party because of Reagan and mostly stayed there, the radical Christians always vote GOP, and the older population always goes out to vote in every election while younger moderates stay home or cry how "both sides are equally bad."

You are blaming politicians for going where the money is because they can't win elections or finance them without it. You should be blaming liberals and moderates for not voting enough and not being politically active. But that would be taking personal responsibility for your duties as a citizen and we can't have that. The most politically active young people are is when they sit online and biatch about how the parties don't care about them.

With more deflection than Wonder Woman's bracelets.
The real problem with this, as Piketty explains, is not just the disparity in wealth but how that happened and what the wealthy do with that money once they get it, influencing the law to make themselves and their heirs even wealthier at the expense of the rest of society.
They could just take their money and chill, but no - they have to fark with everyone else, because they can.

Wait, are you trying to tell me that after the worst financial crisis in nearly a century--one in which the middle and lower classes fared proportionally worse than the rich--the middle and lower classes are doing proportionally worse than the rich? I'm so goddamned tired of this do-nothing socialist dictator failing to violate causality.

It's also totally irrelevant. I don't know of any liberals who think the GOP is more beholden to rich interests than liberals are. The different is that the rich interests the Dems are beholden to hold liberal views, but that's mostly a coincidence.
