Sports?  Nascar?  Oh, I see.  He hit him, so maybe call it boxing, which is a sport.

/for that matter how the frack can you call it STOCK car racing?  The only stock thing there is the disappointment

Because all of the vehicles are based off of the stock road vehicles. As opposed to top fuel, alcohol, funny cars, modifieds, outlaws, sprints, etc.

Uh, no, but they also don't have an 850 horsepower engine, either. Hence: Based on the stock road vehicle.

How is it based, do they use the stock chassis, any stock body panels, or at least use stock headlights?

I know the answer, but I had to.  Why? Because the race cars aren't really based on stock cars since the 80's.  They just borrow some body lines in the body panels, that is it.  Which is about as close to stock as funny cars.  And no, the race car's bodies do not match the stock body.  Pretty much, if they didn't put stickers on the car, you may not tell the difference between the Chevy's and Toyotas.  The Fords do use the stock grill, which is some attempt at stock.  I have an idea, have one non-points race where the drivers have to use a true stock car.  The pit crews are required a certain number of pits, and no, they are not allowed to leave parts off like hubcaps.  It would be hilarious to watch the airbag pop in Jeff Gordon's face when he bumps the guy ahead of him.  Use a road course so they have reason to use the turn signal.

Oh, come on!  There's no way you could get a viewing audience to see that.

We have to sell beer and other guy products!

You try to put that on the air, it'd have to be on Lifetime and advertise for tampons.  And you'd probably not get even the regular Lifetime audience.

NASCAR is for advertising to high-school educated (or less) males.  It serves no other purpose.

Real race fans watch F1 or Indy.  Droolers watch NASCAR

I think the droolers would love to see the same stock vehicles they drive being beaten up by their favorite NASCAR drivers.  Nearly everyone one of them own a copy of Days of Thunder, just because of that scene where the two drivers beat the hell out of a Chevy Lumina and a Ford Taurus on the way to dinner.  There is a reason why they say, "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday."  Then those same idiots will nearly destroy their own cars, right after watching a race.  It will draw an audience, demolition derbies are still a thing for the droolers.

You don't need to see the race to know the story.  They bumped into each other, probably more than once, on the track and now they are pissed.  About all you will ever need to know.  If you want to really get into it, you'll have to be a fan and watch enough to get a feel for who may or may not have been at fault for the bumping into each other.  It isn't worth it.

See this attitude is highly destructive and flawed.  I watch F1, I watch Indycars, I watch NASCAR,  I watch V8 Supercars, I watch endurance racing, I watch IMSA, I watch rally racing, etc.  I also watch football, I watch soccer, I watch hockey, I watch NBA, I watch MLB, I watch college variations on these sports. So does this make me based upon my racing preferences a real drooling possibly Australian eurotrash......

Watching a sport doesn't define you, your attitude, or your social status.  If you find interest in a sport, enjoy it.  Pigeonholing a certain type of person based on what they watch or don't want is just ignorant. If your a fan of one thing, chances are you will enjoy something similar.
