Well they already honored him after he lost multiple court cases for racial discrimination as a landlord, why should this time be any different?  If you're a billionaire, people will overlook quite a bit to keep the money flowing.

Yeah, that's why all this talk about punishing him and stuff is sort of a laugh. He's a billionaire. We can tut-tut his asshole behavior all we want. If it annoys him, he'll just buy a plane and an island resort and tell us all to fark right off anyway.

Huh. Well, that has the makings for an awkward evening.

If there ever was anything more embarrasing than owning the LA Clippers, its being publicly outed as a racist.

After listening to the recording, I kind of feel bad for this guy. He's in love with a half black, half latina lady who is absolutely beautiful, and he's working in a sport dominated by black players in a godforsaken franchise doing things for his community, but his upbringing, his associates, and his own ingrained prejudices can't get him over the last hump to be a spiritually free human being.

And what he says has a lot of truth to it. There are people out there that judge you if you're a white woman walking with a black man, or an asian man walking with a latina woman, or any other combination of sexes and races because those people that want to judge will find any reason to judge. And Sterling understands this, but what he doesn't understand or doesn't have the moral strength to accept is that the change must come from himself first.

So he's this interesting transitional species from a time when his dinosaur contemporaries would have thought him to be a race traitorous pinko attractive and successful African American lover, but he neither fits in their time nor in ours. And that's what I think is unfortunate for him.

AverageAmericanGuy: And that's what I think is unfortunate for him.

He still has more money than God. He can buy a goddammned new social circle if he wants one.

He's just a shiat human being with a ton of money. Same old story. You feel sorry for him? Really?

And really, I have to wonder what went so wrong in your psyche, to listen to the drunken racist rants of a billionaire and think to yourself, you know, I think I sympathize here.

I mean, really?

And not one of those people is taken seriously be decent society in 2014. I'm still baffled why you feel sorry for him.

Please explain why you apologize for the attitude of racist billionaires. I think I'll learn lots more about you than the actual subject.

Here's another scenario (which seems to be what Team Racist is trying for currently):

He's actually NOT a racist, but he's got to pretend to be one because of his social circle and what they expect.

Two things:

1) You're a BILLIONAIRE. You're worried what the cool kids think of you?
2) Who the hell are these cool kids anyway and can we get their names?

This kind of argument doesn't make any sense. It's the same argument that says that people who live outside their home country for a long enough time should change their citizenship to their country of residence. What may seem logical on paper completely disregards human nature and emotional bonds.

He doesn't sound drunk in the audio, nor does what he says seem racist. It seems realistic, but instead of accepting the hard solution of rejecting the racism of his associates, he takes the easy route and asks his girlfriend to censor herself on Instagram. Being morally wrong doesn't make one a racist.

I got it. You think anyone that isn't 100% with you is 100% against you.

Man, I thought after 14 years of truly divisive politics based on that tenet that people would have grown weary of it.

Any chance you could consolidate your posts a bit?

You're free to think what you want. The recording is linked in the article. The man's history is most likely available out on the internet.

The thing is with gambling, there's always a chance you lose. But in this case, your smugness is already your reward.

I think what Sterling was getting at is that the public backlash against race mixing hurts him financially.  He apparently got some calls from people important to him that were okay with him banging a girl 1/4 his age, but not cool with her being around black guys.  He's not directly racist, but you could say he's giving into racist pressures and promoting a culture of racism.

He's a BILLIONAIRE.

For God's sake, is "peer pressure" the excuse?

What kind of billionaire is worried about peer pressure, exactly? And why would anyone sympathize with a billionaire who was too pussy to stand up to his "friends?" Racist or not, the guy is a poor excuse for a human.

I know the money thing has really tied you up in knots over there at your keyboard. But let me repost my original comment about ditching his associates:

"This kind of argument doesn't make any sense. What may seem logical on paper completely disregards human nature and emotional bonds. "

I do appreciate that you've backed off from the racist thing. That seems like a step forward to finding a common ground to discuss this reasonably.

I sent the link to a Bible verse that seems to fit you to a tee. It's not coincidental that something written 2000 years ago explains the human condition today.
What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.

Confabulat: Racist or not, the guy is a poor excuse for a human.

Yeah, I think we can all agree on that.  But, he's a billionaire because he cares about money.  He's not going to stop caring about money just because he has billions and is days from dying of old age.  It's one of his many character flaws.  I think AvAmGuy was suggesting that, for all those flaws, his views would have been progressive when he was a middle aged man back in 1914.  He's something like a time traveler from when he became an adult, and what was once progressive is now backwards.

It's like if Martin Luther King Jr. was still alive, and just made the news for slapping the shiat out of a kid trying to get recognition for otherkin.  Maybe MLK really hated furries, we don't know.  In his day he was a super progressive guy.  In ours, maybe he'd be another backwards southern religious jackass.  Not that Sterling is like MLK, just saying that context matters, and Sterling is like 200 years old.

I am sorry for the intrusive question I am about to ask. I mean neither offense by it, nor do I mean it in a mean way.

Are you autistic or on the spectrum?

The reason I ask is because you seem to have the inability to comprehend simple empathy, as if you couldn't understand emotions or understand how emotions could shape the behavior of others. Your hangup on the amount of money he has, as if money were the only thing that was important in a person's life, is really weird to me. I'm trying to get a handle on where you are coming from, because it flies in the face of everything I know about family and friends.

Jesus believes in racism, it's why he only helped that Samaritan woman after she compared herself to a dog begging for scraps in Mark 7:28.  If MLK was honest, as a preacher, he'd know his place in serving the white man, and he'd accept slavery as the bible accepts slavery.  So, MLK is a liar and a fraud, but Sterling is honest and good.

Dude don't blow my mind. Let's just keep it real.

My opinion on internet trolling, since eh, that's halfway relevant to the thread, is it's lazy and dumb. I get the concept, yay I can try to pick fights with people by spouting views I don't believe! but that might have been a way to spend time in 1999. In 2014 it just marks you as well, lazy and dumb.

You want to be a dick and argue about something? Do it honestly. You have opinions. You have bile. Do you love everything in the entire world except the new Michael Bay Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot? Cool! Good for you! Now how about instead of wasting your time pretending to make up fights about things you don't care about and go scoot to the 1000 angry TMNT sites out there? Then you can fight proper, like a good little boy!

So anyway, if you're in this thread and want to defend racist billionaire guy, I can only assume you totally believe it.

What I don't understand is why the naacp was honoring him before this story broke?

Stories of his racial comments have been around for years. Hes been sued multiple times in federal court for his treatmemt of minorities. Elgin baylor, his own GM sued him for discrimination. Until recently his running of the Clippers was a joke for 30 years. And as I understand it, he was a slumlord

What was there to honor?
