Lizards never stop growing, throughout their lives. Prior to the great flood, animals and humans lived much longer than they do now, thanks to the extremely high oxygen content in the air as compared to today. After the flood happened, the oxygen in the air was reduced, and so animals and people stopped living as long, meaning that the lizards did not live long enough to grow as large as the dinosaurs had in the past, anymore.

An interesting fact: due to the much reduced oxygen levels after the great flood, dinosaurs had to breathe very quickly to keep their blood oxygenated. This generated a lot of friction, which would sometimes cause the air to actually ignite. This is where legends of "fire-breathing dragons" originate.

The blue whale is the largest animal species ever to have existed on Earth (to our knowledge), and it's still alive today.

The largest dinosaur species grew to about 90 metric tons.  The largest blue whale on record was nearly twice that size.

The predator dinosaurs ate other dinosaurs, so they had to be bigger to kill them and then they had plenty to eat.  At the same time, to defend themselves against the dinosaurs that wanted to eat them, the prey dinosaurs had to become bigger.

It all seems pretty simple to me.

That's a lot of science talk for one who believes th great flood actually happened. So riddle me this: scientifically, the water here on earth is the same water thats been here since water was formed. Our atmosphere recycles it over and over and over. If there is a surplus of water on one part of the earth, another part has less water. So where did these flood waters come from, and where did they go when the flood receded? It couldn't have just vaped off into space....

Yeah, but this is about land animals. There's no land animals that even come close to the glorious size of (some of) the dinosaurs. It's easier for animals to be big when swimming through a medium that will support their bulk through buoyancy.

I think the dragon explanation swayed my me. <snerk>

There were a variety of larger land animals before humans likely hunted them to extinction. Certainly, not the size of the largest dinosaurs, but very large animals. In a certain sense, mammals got as large as they needed, could be, before modern humans came along.

Not a creationist but a large enough meteor or comet impact in an ocean could have flooded the entire world, then naturally settled back into oceans and lakes. Even a large enough quake could cause a tsunami to flood the world.

And scientifically, comets are thought to have brought water to earth, and probably continue to. Don't need a sky god to create water here when it is abundant throughout the universe.

I would assume the only thing that limited carnivours was the size of the prey they hunted. For herbivours it's a combination of having a multi-stomach gut (like a cow) to digest the abundant plant matter combined with a slow metabolism you would find in a reptile. Herbivours also had walnut sized brains so I doubt they needed much sleep or did much thinking. I'd like to imagine them as really big stupid cows; migrating n' eatting all day. Now I want a brontoburger.

Shows what you know. There used to be a "Water Canopy" that enveloped the Earth. When that fell down it caused the great flood. Afterward there was much less oxygen which caused dinosaurs, whose nostrils were only the diameter of a pencil to breathe so fast their noses caught on fire.
Sheesh! Any more historical science connundrums giving you trouble?

The reason mammals are so small today is that humans have hunted most of the big species to extinsion.
A mammuth was a much more tempting hunting target than reindeers.

The numbers of big animals are always small, and the are generally slow to breed. So when a new predator enters the ecosystem, they are vulnerable.
