(YouTube)   Witch burnings, pauses, where fish live, and walnut ranching are at the center of The Touch of Satan from MST3K season 9. Mike, Servo, and Crow deliver one of the funniest episodes of the series. "I sure hope he said peanuts"   (youtube.com) divider line 24

That's "where the fish lives."

Watched this not too long ago with my new-to-MST3K roommate.  One of her favorites so far, somewhat behind the "Wurrwilf" episode.

It's probably in the top 10 or so for me, which is why it was one of the ones I picked out for her introduction :)

Had to give her some exposure before I broke out the Manos or something like that.

Well, I'm going to go puke on the Maverick.

I saw "Warwoolf" on the Turkey Day stream last year at YouTube. Definitely a Season 9 classic. Right alongside Devil Fish, with satanic stringbeans and deep lucifered potatoes

Let's not forget the public domain use of Amazing Grace and the Flammable Grandma.

Those walnuts are just  tearin' through the hay.

Got but the late seasons of MST3K showed a great deal of promise with the material hitting news areas (such as 70s-90s cheese fests and British films) regardless of the SciFi Channel meddling. I was without cable for those last three seasons so saw them rather recently. Makes me even sadder that it ended too soon. For the record, I like both Mike AND Joel. Two sides of the same coin, so to speak.

OK, it's been awhile, so I'm going to watch the entire episode right now.

But before I go, I just want subby to know that NEARLY EVERY OTHER episode in season 9 is better than this one. Hell, most people would put Hobgoblins, Werewolf, Final Sacrifice, and Pumaman in their Top 10 best episodes of all time.

/Of ALL TIME, subby.

I just watched this one last night for my birthday night celebration. The futurewife bought me a fish tank with a "This is where the fish lives" placard, so it seemed fitting. It's one of our favorites.

I'd agree that those might be better episodes. Maybe because The Touch of Satan was a better movie than the others (note that I'm grading on a seriously steep curve) and so there were less jokes.

I'm still watching it, and it definitely slows down a bit near the end (movie and riffs). The beginning -- when he meets the girl by the pond, the endless walnut-farming riffs -- was actually funnier than I had remembered though ;)

I always forget how magic Pearl is:) (Though I remain a TV's Frank/Dr Forrester fan fiend...)

Those sub-pauses were brilliant.  And the pause at the end, I think it was a pregnant pause.

Seasons 8 and 9 have some very strong episodes that regularly pop up on people's top ten. Add Space Mutiny too.
