CF is funny, and his interviews are great, but he can drive a joke into the ground for years like no one else.

Secretariat, ambiguous sexuality, Sean Connery (and Michael Caine), the director being a racist, and the list goes on.

Fortunately, it all continues to be funny, albeit in a cheap way. I still laugh, and the minute I do not laugh I will...stop watching. Enough said.

You forgot Conan Fo'Brien as a possibility...

I once saw Craig Ferguson by chance - was staying at a hotel, and I don't normally watch TV but it was raining and I had no car (was sharing a rental with someone else at the same hotel).  Thus, I was just sortof stuck.  I guess he was...sortof funny?  Not sure to whom he'd be the "best" by any reasonable measure, but eh.

Sometimes I hate my brain. I immediately pictured "that Scottish late night guy", but then couldn't come up with his name.

A joke about the Kardashians!    Oh, my what EDGY humor!  It must take some real talent to make fun of them.  Wow, I'm impressed.

Ah but the reason Craig Ferguson is the best is because he would have said those exact words after he made a Kardashian joke.

What the hell. I thought people around here loved Craig. He's my favorite late show host. I think he's a better interviewer than any of the other late night hosts. Fallon's interviews are downright terrible most of the time. He usually ends up talking more about himself than anything.

Stewart is the hands-down best interviewer at any time of the day.

So was this "joke" in TFA or am I supposed to just know it?  Are we just linking to random Wikipedia articles now?

So confused.  I don't even know when Arbor Day is, and I skimmed that wiki.

He has the best theme song of any late-night show.  Currently airing, that is.  Johnny Carson's theme was pretty catchy.

When I was in high school, my dad more or less forced me to plow a field and then plant 500 trees. Being in high school, I, of course, hated being burdened with yet another duty/chore.

High school was a lifetime ago for me, and now some of those trees are FARKing huge! But the even cooler thing about it is that you can see that they have had babies, and some of the 2nd generation trees are probably 20 feet tall or so.

One interesting thing about it is that these trees were planted in a line, and they had generally moderate growth/success, but there is this one spot where the three biggest trees of the lot are all right together. Makes me wonder. The bad news is that it so overgrown now that you can't get a sense of it visually. Any picture from a distance showing the stand would only show the tops of the trees for all the growth around it.

I think he gets more likable with repeated watching. He's more subtle and laid back than most, which is one of the reasons I like him. Seems like he'd be awesome to hang out with. The other guys would be too 'on' for real life imho.

He sets the tone well (guy on a PR tour for the latest rom-com gets a light-hearted interview, an administration official on a PR tour gets a more hard-nosed one), goes into an interview extremely well-researched, asks pointed questions, doesn't lob softballs, doesn't let an interviewee off the hook for bullshiat answers, and though he may have an adversarial position to the person bring interviewed, still treats them with respect.

I know, I know. He's all mean to your guys and too easy on "his guys".

I also find Stewart to be respectfully and polite, which I value. I don't think much of the yell louder, shout them down, cut the mic agenda driven stuff. But to each his own.

what "they" don't like to concede is the fact that until the McCain/Palin election, McCain was a frequent and popular guest on the show.  Then Jon made a horrible joke or twelve about his running mate.  No more McCain on the daily show.  The "his guys" bit doesn't necessarily mean democrat or republican; he has had civil conversations on a myriad of topics with many republicans.  He has also raked many a lying democrat across the coals either in person or in a monologue when they have been caught doing exactly what they accuse the other side of doing.

Craig is a comedy genius. He had me laughing the other night every time he went up close to the camera and went "Hrmmt!" when he was interviewing his captured studio audience members during the cold opening. He says things funny. Which is a rare talent.
