This is why mom needs another cat.  The one she has is tireless and destructive.

"Oh, you don't want to play?  That's some nice glassware you got there.  Be a shame if anything happened to it."

I swear that little bugger will look at you straight in the eye, not blink or move, except the one paw he uses to knock something off a table or counter.  He wants to make sure you're looking.

strapping a laser to the cats head would be more awesome.

ok, since cats don't have opposable thumbs, was the rod taped to the cat's paw?

The camera is very careful not to show around the corner where the pole ends.  I'm guessing a human handler or lever of some sort manipulating it.  The cat is keeping it's paw on the pole which is not all that unusual.  Film it long enough and you will get the footage shown.

Clever.  But staged.

I thought it looked like the pole was stuck in a red hole on the shelf or whatever the cat is laying on. And he/she is just bouncing it with it's paw. You may be right though, I didn't try to analyze it too much, just enjoy the cute.

Watch it again, the end is stuck through the wire shelf.  Staged, but legit.

My cat *grasps* stuff; her thumb may not be fully opposable, but she'll pick things up with every bit of human mimicry of grasping items from point a lifting, and setting down at point b.

Just remind us how quickly she's evolving... Oh and that we'll have to sleep eventually. But that we shouldn't worry, or anything.

Nope.

One of mine does this too. Yeah, it'd have been good to see the other end of the pole 'cause... you know, internet... but if I was rating this mythbuster-style, I'd rate that plausible. Cats can grip with their toes about as well as humans can, just smaller things.

We had a fat cat (sadly gone to the Rainbrow Bridge 10 years ago) that had a thing for pretzels.  He would jump up and swat them out of your hand just as you went to eat them.

And at 18 pounds, he could put quite a bit of force behind that swipe.
