Pacino would have been great in First Blood, if it were closer to the book. Of course there'd be no Rambo franchise but I could live with that.

The "TIL" thing is stupid.

Maybe I should make an acronym 'CAUSE so it can be confused with "cause" and the contraction of "because" which is " 'cause."

That's what "TIL" does. It looks like "til!

Damn kids!

Two of the greatest actors of their generation who were roughly the same build and height competed for the same roles? Nice reporting there Ric Romero.

Al Pacino in Hook might have been hysterical. On the other hand (HA!) it might have been hysterical for the wrong reasons.

// yes, it was 1991; technically not the 70s or 80s

Either way it's stupid. It forces older readers to waste time telling their brain "No, brain, it's not 'til," "the sentence is not saying:"Until pretty much any role Al Pacino..."

And it sets the younger generations up for failure as they will misinterpret:" 'til " and waste more time.

Close Encounters is a fantastic movie, and it's hard to imagine anyone else buy Richard Dreyfuss sculpting those mashed potatoes (insert Weird Al photo here).

And I don't know if it's because he's so engrained into our societal identity, but Harrison Ford was perfect as Han Solo.

I feel most acronyms being used on the internet are confusing and unnecessary. Just type it out. It takes like 4 extra seconds and then everyone knows what you're talking about.

There is hope afterall.

Seriously, if the "speaker" gets too fancy and the audience cannot keep up, whose fault is it really?

Not really worth looking up.

But you can certainly gauge one's level of pretentiousness if they use new abbreviations just to appear hip.

I liked Wag the Dog, Hook, Runaway Jury, and I Heart Huckabees (didn't really "get" it, but it was enjoyable enough).

The Usual Suspects...Pacino couldn't have been as restrained as Palmentieri(sp?) was. That movie needed the slow build up to the incredible twist finish and Pacino would have been chewing scenery the whole way through.

Let's see, this script calls for a quirky dude with a huge nose, that isn't afraid of partial nudity or racy topics.
It's gritty, and probably shot in an ubran clime. mostly probably NYC but could be Chitown.

The one that drives me nuts is ICYMI (in case you missed it).  One of my local news stations actually uses it on some of their Facebook posts.  It makes me want to drive over there and give their social media person an UFIA.

Excuse me, was he or was he not in Ishtar?

Come to think of it, going through IMDB, I wouldn't say he wasn't in any good movies, just none of them are type of movie. I think I liked Billy Bathgate but that was a long time ago and I don't remember much about it. Wag the Dog, same thing.

Hated Hook. Great score though, naturally.

I think Hook is like The Fifth Element or Hudson Hawk. If I knew it was a comedy going in I might have liked it better.

/liked The Fifth Element well enough

Yeah, more and more when I see stuff like "ICYMI" I instantly decide the person on the other end is either lazy, stupid or both, and not worth more time investment.  It's worse when a professional outfit employs it(like your local news station) I mean, did they get their degrees from Crackjacks too?   I guess what I'm saying is that stupid, lazy, language cheapens individuals and institutions.

So it's Ironic that I got to laugh at...the UFIA joke.    Ah a Fark classic. Didn't a judge come up with that?

And thanks for telling me what ICYMI meant because my looking up "TIL" today used up my looking-up-stupid-crap-quota. ;)

Glengarry Glen Ross is my favorite movie, so I'm biased.  Its one of the few movies where I think Pacino playing Pacino actually works.

Yeah, I can see that.  I kinda disagree- I thought the scene where he went nuts on Spacey's character was well done.  Yes, I know he was Pacino playing Pacino... but with as balanced of a cast in the room, I was cool with it.  As a *lead* actor, he generally makes my eyes roll.  But there wasn't really a lead actor in Glengarry Glen Ross.

I don't know what my obsession with the movie is... there are like 3 movies I've watched more than once... and I've watched my DVD of Glengarry easily 100 times.
