I had the chance to buy Chinese Democracy for a dollar.  I didn't buy it.

But still, as I sit here on my couch, I am still wondering whether or not I should have bought it.

This is coming from someone who bought Kevin Federline's album and listened to it.

Four sentences ending in "it."

Duff is back in the band, so there's always hope for something good to come of this.

Its not actually that bad, but I get that whatever constitutes "Guns N Roses" nowadays has a rather liberal definition of the term "year"

Oh fark off, I was never that young.

I love the video on the article. Nicolas Cage presents them with whatever the hell award that was. It seems fitting somehow.

Chinese Democracy is actually probably the weakest song on Chinese Democracy.  TWAT, This I Love, Sorry.. are all fantastic.. Riyadh should've opened the album with that scream.  It's really a very good improvement on what was good in UYI.  It's not really anything like Appetite, of course, which is what so many people hoped for, but GnR of any incarnation, I think was a lot more UYI than they were Appetite.  Many of the UYI songs were originally written before Appetite was released, they used to play all kinds of that stuff live ..

TFA said Duff was filling in for the current bassist, whom used to be in The Replacements and was just out on a "reunion" tour*.

Isn't he the replacement for the replacement (for the previous replacement) guitarist by now?

After looking at a list of 21 current and past members (which I'm not sure is definitive), I'm not sure I used enough replacements up there.  Of those, 10 of them are guitarists (not including Axl), 7 as lead guitar...

Depends what you mean by better. Sorum had/has better meter (helps to be relativley sober), which is kind of drumming 1A. However, in terms of creativity, writing awesome parts/fills that complement the songs and the other instruments, it's not even close. Steven blows Matt out of the water. You will NEVER hear Matt Sore-Arm write anyting like the intro to It's So Easy, for example. Can you name one memorable fill or drum part that Matt Sorum has ever written? Perhaps the intro to You Could Be Mine, but I don't know who wrote it. Given Steven's ability to write awesome parts, but poor meter, I compare him to a really good poet who is bad at spelling.

I also should mention dynamics, groove...Steven blows Matt out of the water. Have you ever heard Matt write anything as dynamic as Paradise City or even Rocket Queen? Steven was great at combining ballads, rock n' roll groove, and heavy metal aggression seemlessly.

Hmmm... I remember getting Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds the week it came out.  I completely expected it to be like what it turned out to be.  That's not a bad thing, it was a good album.

Same with Slash's Snakepit.  Not unexpected at all (in my mind).  Still a great album.

Fatty McGee & Five Guys Who Aren't Slash.  Pretty silly that he insists on calling this "Guns n' Roses".  If this is Guns n' Roses, then the David Lee Roth Band is Van Halen.

Metallica had it right in this song about Axl:

"And it all crashes down and you break your crown
and you point your finger but there's no one around
Just want one thing' just to play the king
But the castle crumbles and you're left with just a name.

WHERE'S YOUR CROWN, KING NOTHING?"

I based that opinion on my own experience as a DJ at a rock station when the album came out...I can't tell you how many people called to tell me that the Ju Ju Hounds sucked because they didn't sound like GnR.  I always said that's exactly why I liked them.

Axl developed an appetite for more than just destruction. Maybe that was the spaghetti incident their previous album title was referencing.

I get ya.  I just knew Izzy was of the Keith Richards school of... I don't know what you call it... 60's style blues-influenced/garage band influenced simple rock.  No concept, very little complexity... just good straight-up rock and roll music.
